WFI to host convention and tabletop exhibit in Green Bay
The early registration deadline of February 4 for the Wisconsin Fabricare Institute’s annual state convention and tabletop exhibit is just around the corner.
Cleaners who plan to attend the event, which takes place from February 11-13 at the Radisson in Green Bay, WI, should sign up as early as possible.
WFI has planned a busy weekend, starting at 3 p.m. on Friday when the association hosts two hours of drycleaning certification and recertification tests. Afterward, a reception, dinner and hospitality will begin at 6:30 p.m. where attendees will be entered in a drawing to win free registration for the 2006 State Convention. It will be held at the American Club in Kohler.
On Saturday morning, general business sessions will run from 9:30 a.m. until noon, starting with a seminar on “Effectively Defending Unemployment Insurance Claims.” Attorney Daniel Finerty, who represents management in all areas of labor and employment law at the firm of Krukowski & Costello, will walk attendees through the unemployment insurance claims process during a 75-minute presentation.
At 11 a.m., Cheryl McCollum, director of communications/public affairs for the Wisconsin Bankers Association, will present “Identity Theft — The Fastest Growing Crime in America and Tips on How You Can Prevent It.” McCollum is the managing editor of WBA’s monthly publication, Wisconsin Banker, and she oversees the WBA Personal Economic Program (PEP), the WBA web site and several other WBA publications.
The Allied Trades Table Top and Dessert Reception will be held from 2 to 3:30 p.m. and showcase some of the industry’s new products and services. It will be followed by a two-hour “Come Cruise With Us” auction to raise money for WFI’s educational fund.
WFI’s Saturday banquet dinner, which begins at 6:30 p.m., will feature announcements of the Five Star Awards, the Fitzgerald Scholarship winners and the Hall of Fame Chair. Past President Arlene Tutkowski will induct the next member of WFI’s Hall of Fame.
On Sunday morning, IFI President Dan Martino will present a seminar on “What’s New at IFI and a Virtual Tour of IFI’s New Facility” at 9 a.m. Afterward, IFI Vice President Jon Meijer will discuss the issue of “Obtaining and Retaining Customers on a Limited Budget.”
At 11:30 a.m., WFI plans to have a guest speaker for 30 minutes before a brunch at the Standing Stone Buffet.
WFI recommends registering prior to February 4. A full registration package — which includes admission to the Friday evening Valentine’s party, the Saturday morning breakfast and educational sessions, the Table Top Dessert Reception, the auction, the Saturday evening banquet and hospitality, and a continental breakfast on Sunday along with all of the day’s educational sessions — will cost $145 per person.
That cost will go up an additional $20 after the early registration deadline has passed. Individual packages are also available for cleaners. Information is available by calling (414) 529-4707.
Cleaners will want to plan on reserving rooms at the Radisson as early as possible since the event coincides with Valentine’s Day weekend. The hotel is offering attendees a special rate of $90 per night for a single or double to attendees as long as rooms are available. Call (920) 494-7300 for reservations.
