Environmental awards need nominees
Nominations are open for the 2005 Small Business Assistance Environmental Stewardship Awards.
These awards recognize the commitment of a small business to not only be in compliance with applicable environmental regulations but also to be stewards of the environment.
The annual awards were established by the National Steering Committee representing the Small Business Assistance Programs nationwide.
The awards recognize exemplary performance in one or more of the following areas: pollution prevention leadership, industrial environmental leadership, and community environmental leadership. A nominee must adso have worked with the local, state/territorial, or national Small Business Ombudsman/Small Business Assistance Program (SBO/SBAP) in these efforts.
More than one award can be given. Winners will be invited to attend a luncheon at the annual SBO/SBAP National Conference in Biloxi, MS, on June 13 where the awards will be presented.
Small business nominees must meet the following criteria:
• Be an individually owned company with less than 100 full-time employees.
• Have worked with a local, state/territorial, or national SBO/SBAP.
• Be located either in the U.S. or its territories.
Businesses should be able to demonstrate that they have gone above and beyond the requirements of the law to reduce wastes and emissions by using environmentally-friendly business practices; to reduce or minimize consumption of natural resources; to be leaders in their industry; to serve as a positive role model to their peers; and to have designed products with the environment in mind. 
Awards will be given to small businesses that exhibit environmental stewardship in one or more of the following categories: pollution prevention leadership; industrial environmental leadership; and community environmental leadership.
