PDCA plans more member seminars on “Be A Pro”
Following the success of its February 5 maintenance seminar in Harrisburg, PA, the Pennsylvania and Delaware Cleaners Association will be presenting more offerings of its “Be A Pro” educational series in the near future.
Tom Greene of Remco was the first to address a full house at the Harrisburg Hilton on the importance of keeping drycleaning machinery running at optimum levels. Also presenting at the daylong seminar was Carl Gardner of the Laidlaw Corporation, Paul Ziegler of EnCop, environmental attorney Rick Friedman, Dave Clouser from Advantage Engineering, and Tom Mellott, acting director of the Pennsylvania brownfields program.
PDCA announced earlier this year that it will offer its members help throughout the year through its “Be A Pro” series, designed specifically to help them improve their drycleaning and business skills in order to be better than the competition.
Making due on that promise, PDCA will now be offering several more seminars throughout the year, including some hosted by local associations.
On March 17, CPDA will enlist Paul J. Dellaseg, Esq., and Crystal H. Williamson, Esq., to discuss “Defending Against Sexual Harassment Claims” in Harrisburg.
“Wetcleaning, Not Washing” is slated to run from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 19 at Joseph Krow Leather and Suede, located at 11055 Parker Dr. in N. Huntingdon, PA. Ed Share of the Laidlaw Corporation will be the guest instructor.
Bio-remediation is the topic of a seminar by Seth Haubenstock, PHA, planned for Monday, April 4 at the Crossroads Restaurant. It will be hosted by the Lehigh Valley Drycleaners Guild.
Turning to the latter half 2005, IFI’s Fran Sadler will discuss how to “Make Money on Work You  Turn Away Now” on Sept. 14 in Pittsburgh, PA. She will repeat the program on the following day in Harrisburg, as well.
More seminars for Philadelphia, Wilmington and other areas are in the works, as well. Topics will include stain removal, pressing and wetcleaning.

MAC Expo to feature free admission
When cleaners attend the MidAtlantic Association of Cleaners’ Cleaning Expo Showcase from October 28-30, they will do so free of charge.
According to Buddy Gritz, the chairman for the event, MAC wants to set the bar high this year.
“We’re going all out to make this an outstanding tradeshow opportunity for the entire MidAtlantic region to see the newest and best,” he noted.  “Free admission, non-union move-in and move-out, and an outstanding location, are just part of what will make this the best show in a long time.”
The show will take place at the Dulles Expo and Conference Center in Chantilly, VA, located in the heart of Northern Virginia on Route 28 between I-66 and the Dulles Toll Road in Fairfax County, VA,
Exhibition hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 28; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29; and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 30.
