First graduates of 2005 at IFI school
The first round of 2005 courses at the International Fabricare Institute’s School of Dry Cleaning Technology saw 21 students graduating from the Introduction and Advanced Dry Cleaning courses in January and February.
Students came from as near as IFI’s backyard to points as far away as Alberta, Canada, and Puerto Rico to gain practical experience in all aspects of the drycleaning business.
The next three-week General Dry Cleaning Course will be April 4–22, to be followed by a summer session July 11-29. Other sessions this year will begin Aug. 9 and Oct 18.
The one-week introductory course is designed for individuals new to the industry or those with less than one year of experience. It covers fibers and fabrics, assembly and invoicing and the principles of the drycleaning process, including aspects such as the drycleaning machine, work flow, elementary stain removal and finishing procedures for pants, coats and skirts. The course costs $450 per member and $695 per non-member.
For those who have completed the introductory course, or those with more than one year of production experience, the two-week advanced course emphasizes specialty fabrics and fiber identification; advanced stain removal procedures and bleaches; finishing blouses, dresses, ties, all-weather coats, pleats, pile fabrics, silks, and rayon; wetcleaning; customer service; and business management, among other topics.
For more information on the course and possible scholarships, contact IFI’s Education Department at 800-638-2627.
