PA DEP targets drycleaners with compliance
inspectins
Officials from the state’s
Department of Environmental Protection will definitely be
visiting cleaning plants each month to check for compliance
with air quality regulations, according to Dale Kaplan, PDCA’s liaison for government relations.
In his capacity as chairman of the
Pennsylvania Small Business Environmental Compliance Advisory
Committee, Kaplan recently learned that each of DEP’s
regional offices will be sending out inspectors to visit a
minimum number of drycleaners monthly in adherence to its
requirement with EPA to implement the federal Clean Air Act in
Pennsylvania.
Kaplan suggests that cleaners make sure
they are prepared for an inspection by following all of the
deadlines and guidelines listed in their 2005 Dry Cleaner
Compliance calendars, which were originally developed by DEP
and the Pennsylvania and Delaware Cleaners Association.
Cleaners who have misplaced their
calendar, or are in need of another one, should contact either
PDCA at (215) 830-8495; the Pennsylvania Small Business
Development Center’s Environmental Management Assistance
Program (EMAP) at (877) ASK-EMAP; or the Pennsylvania DEP
Bureau of Air Quality at (717) 787-9257.
Kaplan also pointed out that DEP
encompasses more than air quality issues, reminding state
cleaners that DEP’s waste program continues to conduct
separate inspections in plants that focus on other compliance
issues such as hazardous waste labeling, secondary containment
and the recycling of used fluorescent lamps.
Cleaners who need further assistance to
prepare for a DEP visit may contact PDCA or EMAP for free and
confidential assistance by using the aforementioned phone
numbers or by visiting the EMAP web site www.askemap.org.
WPCL plans outing for Pirate ball game in
May
With spring training wrapping up and
Major League baseball just around the corner, fans will be
heading out to the ballpark soon to experience all of the
promise and excitement that a new season brings.
The Western Pennsylvania Cleaners and
Laundry Association is hoping to harness some of that energy
for its member cleaners by offering its fourth consecutive
Pittsburgh Pirates baseball game outing
The association has reserved another
bundle of tickets that its members can purchase at a discounted
rate of $5 each.
The promotion is an economical way for
cleaners to reward their best customers and employees with a
fun day at the ballpark.
This year, the Pirates will host slugging
legend Barry Bonds and the San Francisco Giants on Sunday, May
1 at 1:35 p.m.
WPCL’s baseball outing last year
— which sold 1,500 tickets altogether — featured a
meeting between Pittsburgh and Cincinnati with the Pirates
shutting out the Reds 6-0.
As has been the tradition in past
outings, there will be a tailgate party preceding the baseball
game.
For more information, contact WPCL
President Dave Beatty at (724) 327-6400.
