Hotel deadlines approach for Carolina Clean ’05
Those who plan on attending the North Carolina Association of Launderers and Cleaners 2005 convention will have until May 6 to capitalize on special discounted hotel rates at the Atlantic Beach Sheraton Hotel in North Carolina.
Rooms are available for $132 per night (oceanview) and $179 per night (oceanfront) for attendees who call (800) 214-0258 and mention their affiliation with Carolina Clean ’05 before that date.
The event is set to take place from May 27-29 on Memorial Day weekend.
NCALC has planned a full seafood feast on Friday evening with its “Shipwreck Party” from 7 to 11 p.m. Those who participate are encouraged to dress up as their favorite 1960s sitcom or pop star and take part in the costume and karaoke contests.
The association will get down to business on the morning of Saturday, May 28. IFI President Dan Martino — who also owns Martino’s Master Cleaners in Kenosha, WI — will deliver a keynote address at 8 a.m. on “Your New IFI.” His presentation will include a pictorial tour of IFI’s new state-of-the-art facilities in Laurel, MD.
Two other educational opportunities will be presented at that time. The first will be a Drycleaning Solvent Cleanup Act program update offered by Dr. Eric Swope and Dr. John Powers entitled “Compliance Rather Than Enforcement Is Our Goal.”
Tony Pendola, the publisher of the Dry Cleaners Air & Waste Compliance calendar, will also be on hand to discuss how DENR’s Customers Service Center can assist cleaners with regulatory issues.
At 10 a.m., Ted Barry, VP of Operations for John Barry Associates, will present a 90-minute seminar on “The Importance of Measurement,” helping cleaners understand how to improve their business’s bottom line by knowing what to measure, how to measure it, and how to use that knowledge to improve profitability.
Later that evening, NCALC will offer another networking opportunity from 7 to 11 p.m. with a Big Luau featuring a buffet of barbecued ribs. Party-goers can don Hawaiian shirts or grass skirts and engage in costume, hula and limbo contests throughout the evening.
On Sunday morning, NCALC will begin its second day of educational sessions at 8 a.m. with Laura Barron, president of the Barron Group. She will present a three-hour workshop on the topic of “Finding, Motivating and Retaining Good Employees,”
IFI CEO Bill Fisher will follow at 11:30 a.m. with a discussion of “What’s New From IFI.” As drycleaning businesses seek to adapt to meet the challenges of the evolving market, IFI is retooling its services to better assist members in meeting and mastering that new market for drycleaning services. Fisher will explain how to attendees.
Afterward, NCALC will hold its general membership meeting at noon, before hosting its Champagne Reception, Annual Banquet & Auction later in the evening from 7 to 11 p.m.
Local IFI District Director Barbara Harvey, CED, CPD, who is on track to being the association’s president in 2007, will be the guest speaker at the banquet.
