SDA to offer June, November courses at ITC in Lubbock, TX
It is always a good idea for drycleaners of all levels of experience to keep their cleaning skills updated.
With that in mind, the Southwest Drycleaners Association will host several upcoming educational training sessions at the International Textile Center on the campus of Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX.
A week-long General Fabricare program will be held from June 13-17. The course will meet from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and from 8:30 to 11: 30 a.m. on Friday. It will be taught by industry expert Jane Zellers.
The course will cover a variety of topics, including basic customer service, fibers and fabrics, basic stain removal, drycleaning technology, proper classification of garments for quality cleaning and reduced claims, wetcleaning procedures and dye stripping.
Additionally, attendees will learn finishing/pressing techniques for drycleaning and tips on how to produce the “perfect” shirt.
Zellers will also outline workflow, with an emphasis on the proper equipment layout and its role in production. Cleaners will learn methods designed for productivity, as well as quality.
Class time will be divided between classroom presentations and practical application and hands-on work.
Tuition is $485 per IFI/SDA member; $510 for other IFI members; and $575 for everybody else. The cost includes a box lunch for each full day of class.
Later this year, SDA will host a three-day basic stain removal class at ITC from November 14-16. It will meet from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on the first two days, and from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
The course will examine proper stain removal techniques. Students will learn how dyes, pigments, prints and finishes are all vital concerns to the cleaning process and also understand the proper use of tools used on a daily basis. Terms such as wetside, dryside, alkaline and acid will all be discussed.
Cost for the class is $315 for IFI/SDA members, $385 for other IFI members and $450 for non-members.
Those who complete the basic course may want to stick around for the advanced stain removal class, which will meet from November 16-18. Class will be in session from 1 to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, and 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Friday.
The two day course will focus on more advanced stain removal techniques. Cleaners will gain a better understanding of fiber content, weaves, garment construction and how to test fiber content by burn testing, among other topics.
There will also be hands-on training using bleaches, digesters and KOH.
Tuition for the advanced stain removal course is $305 for each SDA member; $370 for other IFI members; and $435 for non-members.
All courses at the International Textile Center have a pre-set minimum of 10 students and a maximum of 24.
