MILD to host annual convention
at the Treetops Resort in Gaylord
Cleaners seeking “Great Times in
the Great North” need not look any further than the Michigan Institute of Laundering and
Drycleaning’s summer
convention.
The event will be held at the Treetops
Resort in Gaylord, Michigan on August 12 and 13.
The activities will begin at 1 p.m. on
Friday when MILD hosts a three-hour board meeting. Afterward,
the association will present a vendor showcase and networking
reception running from 5 to 6 p.m.
An opening night barbecue dinner will
follow, punctuated by an appearance from comedian Craig
Tornquist, who offers clean family humor in the form of song
parodies, impressions and audience interaction. He has
performed over 1,500 stand-up shows all across the country.
On Saturday morning, cleaners can begin
their day with an hour-long buffet breakfast and vendor
showcase at 8 a.m.
At 9 a.m., the first educational session
of the weekend will feature Todd Schebor of Dykema Gossett,
PLLC, who is an expert on environmental law, including issues
of remediation cleanups, underground storage tanks, waste
management, water discharge and cost recovery litigation.
While attending the University of
Michigan, Schebor earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the
School of Natural Resources and Environment.
He will provide attendees with an updated
compliance report and also discuss how cleaners can make sure
they meet federal and state regulations, which will save them
money in the long run and help them avoid unnecessary
headaches.
A second educational session will begin
at 10:15 a.m. and will feature Kent Downey, president of
Unemployment Services, Inc.
His discussion on “Unemployment
Cost: The Hidden Money Pit” will examine how plant owners
can take control of their unemployment claims and ultimately
save themselves thousands of dollars.
Downey, a graduate of Eastern Michigan
University, has over 19 years of experience assisting employers
with controlling and reducing their unemployment claims and
taxes.
Saturday afternoon will be left open for
those who would prefer to relax on the golf course, in a canoe,
or at a nearby shopping center.
Later in the evening, MILD will host a
cocktail reception at 6 p.m., followed by its annual
President’s Gala and Awards at 7 p.m. The conference will
conclude with a reception in the Presidential Suite at 8:30
p.m.
Convention registration is reduced for an
early bird special of $135 per member and $175 per non-member
for those who sign up prior to July 31.
After that date, the cost goes up to $155
for members and $195 for non-members. The cost includes access
to all speaker sessions, the Friday night reception and BBQ,
and the Saturday buffet breakfast, awards and dinner.
Additionally, spouse registration is $95
and child registration is $40 for kids 12 years and under.
Those who wish to tee off on the golf
outing at noon on Saturday must pay an additional $110 fee,
which includes the cost of a box lunch. Cleaners who want to go
canoeing should contact the MILD office directly for more
details.
