NCA takes ’em out to the ball game
It’s a backward year for Major League Baseball fans, especially in New York. So far, the Yankees have taken the criticism that is usually reserved for the Mets, who, after starting the season 0-5, have fought back over .500 and are hoping to be a bona fide contender in the National League East for the first time since the Subway Series of 2000.
For the team formula to be successful, the Mets have to rely partially on to the pitching arms of Pedro Martinez and Tom Glavine and partially on the hard-hitting of Cliff Floyd and Carlos Beltran. And they watch hopefully as budding stars David Wright and Jose Reyes develop.
The National Cleaners Association is giving its members a chance to see this roster of stars both young and old at the association’s 7th Annual Night at Shea Event.
This year’s game will take place on Friday, July 15 and will feature the Atlanta Braves, another contender in the NL East division hoping to carve their way to the top of the heap.
Those who purchase the $45 tickets will receive: entry to the picnic area at Shea Stadium for an afternoon picnic; bleacher seats to the game; a great dinner will all kinds of food and drink; and a number of free raffle prizes will be handed out, as well.
A limited number of tickets remain. To participate, call Joe Hallak of Hallak Cleaners at (201) 343-7333 or Ed Roth of UN Cleaners at (718) 969-0207 as early as possible.
CLA brings its two-day seminar series
to New York in September
The Coin Laundry Association planned to visit five major cities altogether throughout 2005, bringing along its comprehensive seminar series for both new and veteran coin launderers.
After making stops in Las Vegas, Dallas and Orlando, New York is set to be next on Sept. 23 and 24. CLA will conclude the tour in Chicago in November.
The association will present “Coin Laundry Basics for Beginners” on Friday, Sept. 23, an ideal program for anyone thinking about getting into the business or who has recently purchased a laundry.
Registration for the one day workshop will begin promptly at 10 a.m.
Bob Eisenberg, chairman of CLA’s board of directors, will start things rolling at 10: 30 a.m. with a look at “Evaluating and Investment in Coin Laundry,”  answering questions such as: Is the laundry business worth the time and money? He will also inform attendees about what type of return on investment they can expect from their coin laundry.
At 1 p.m., Clay Pederson, vice chairman of CLA, will explore the issue of “Buying a Laundry vs. Building New,” comparing and contrasting the advantages and disadvantages of each option so new investors can make an informative decision on which option is right for them.
After that, CLA President and CEO Brian Wallace will take the podium to discuss “Finding the Right Location for Your Laundry.” Demographic analysis and proper site selection play vital roles in a successful laundry investment, so Wallace will underline many of the key factors unique to choosing laundry locations.
Michael Sokolowski, executive vice president of CLA, will take an in-depth look at the day-to-day operations of a laundry with his presentation on “A Day in the Life of a Laundry Owner” at 3:15 p.m.
Finally, the day’s seminar schedule will end with a panel discussion at 4 p.m. Various experts in the industry will convene to discuss coin laundry basics as attendees ask their own questions.
On the second day of the seminar series, CLA will focus its attention toward helping coin launderers grow their laundry I.Q.
In the morning, CLA President and CEO Brian Wallace will discuss the high expectations of today’s laundry customers in his program called “Creating the Ideal Customer Experience”
“Solving Tough Employee Problems” is the topic of a session  by attorney Myles Mattenson, who will be joined by a representative from Paychex. The session starts at 1 p.m.
At 2 p.m., Michael Sokolowski will be back to speak about planning for the future of the industry with a seminar on “Strategic Business Analysis.” Learn what to look for, and how to make changes that may result in greater profits from your laundry investment.
The topic of marketing and advertising for the coin laundry business will be addressed by Sue Lally, director of membership and meeting planning for CLA. Her program, which starts at 3 p.m., is entitled “Marketing on a Budget.”
The day will conclude with “The Equipment Equation: When and How to Upgrade,” hosted by Bob Eisenberg.
