ODCA selects Hallmark Inn as site for
annual convention
The Oregon
Dry Cleaners Association is
still in its early planning stages for its annual convention
and tabletop display planned for later this year, but one
detail has been hammered out already: the location.
Cleaners who enjoy a breathtaking ocean
view at luxurious accommodations will want to sign up early
since that location is the Hallmark Resort, nestled on the
beautiful beach front of Newport, Oregon.
All the guest rooms at Hallmark have
walkout balconies so guests can take in the panoramic views of
the ocean front. Some of the other optional amenities available
include: in-room two-person spas; fireplaces; an indoor
recreation room and fitness center, complimentary high-speed
internet access; and a chance for a fine meal of steaks or
seafood at the resort’s own popular oceanfront restaurant
— Georgie’s Beachside Grill.
To take a 360 degree picture tour of
Hallmark, visit the resort’s web site online at
www.harlmarkinns.com and click on the “Take a tour”
link under the Newport heading. It requires QuickTime player or
java script enabled to see.
You will also need to disable your
“pop up stopper” if you have one currently running
on your computer.
In addition to the location, ODCA has
also finalized the date for the convention It is scheduled to
take place from Oct. 7-9.
Weekend activities will include a Friday
evening president’s reception, a Saturday night awards
banquet and a Sunday morning general membership meeting and
breakfast.
Cleaners will also be able to attend a
few educational seminars, the details of which will be
announced in the future by ODCA.
While the weekend will certainly be
beneficial from a business standpoint, it will also make for a
nice getaway.
The local area offers plenty of fun
activities — everything from beach combing and shopping
to whale watching and a visit at the famous local Oregon Coast
Aquarium.

CARB classes scheduled
in So. California
California cleaners located in the
southern part of the state will have several upcoming
opportunities in the next few months to achieve the California
Air Resources Board-required certification for Air Toxic
Control Measure Training (Title 17, Calif. Code of Reg. Section
93110).
Those who do not have a current
certificate of training posted on the premises of their
business can be subject to a minimum fine of $150.
In the Bay Area, some inspectors are
writing violations on the spot starting at $500, so cleaners
would be wise to renew their expired certificates as soon as
possible.
Dallons Environmental Services will be
doing their part to help by offering CARB classes on the last
Saturday of every month in Long Beach.
Upcoming class dates include: July 30,
Aug. 27, Sept. 24, Oct. 29 and Nov. 26.
Class size is limited to 30 people and
pre-registration is required.
The cost is $150 for initial
certification and $75 for three-year recertification.
For more information, call Dallons
Environmental Services at (800) 347-6551.
