Dependable Cleaners rewards kids in Read to Ride program
Getting children to read during the school year can be hard enough, but what about during the summer?
Surprisingly, it doesn’t seem to be very difficult in the Boston and South Shore area, anyway.
As part of its 7th annual Read to Ride Program, Dependable Cleaners helped influence local children to read nearly 5,500 books this summer, none of which were homework assignments.
Many children who participated in the program were recompensed generously for their efforts; in all, Dependable Cleaners rewarded 21 children between the ages of six and 15 with brand new bicycles and safety helmets.
Additionally, 32 runners-up were given prizes donated by programs sponsors: gift certificates from Braintree Book Rack, Storybook Cove in Hanover and Buttonwood Books in Cohasset.
Other prizes handed out included tickets to Canobie Lake Park in Salem, NH.
“We had an overwhelming response to the program again this year,” said Dependable Cleaners President Christa Hagearty. “Many of the winners were amazing children who really deserved to be rewarded for their efforts and commitment to reading. Congratulations to all the winners and the runners-up!”
Other sponsors who contributed to the program success were: Anderson Bicycle, Farina’s Bicycle Center, The Patriot Ledger, WBZ 1030 AM and Radio Disney.
Entry forms were made available at all 17 locations of Dependable Cleaners throughout the South Shore and Boston area.
