Sadler to teach two-day spotting seminar
in Atlanta
The South Eastern
Fabricare Association will
be offering a two-day educational program on “Basic and
Advanced Spotting” in Atlanta, GA, Oct. 1 and 2.
The seminars will be held at the Embassy
Suites at the Galleria Mall, located at 2815 Akers Mill Rd.
IFI Instructor Fran Sadler, CPD, CED,
will teach the program, which will include two daily segments.
The first day will examine basic
drycleaning spotting skills, including fabric and fiber
identification, weaves, dyes, prints and finishes, and how to
get the most our of your drycleaning machine.
Those who attend will gain a true
understanding of pre-spotting and the preparation of garments
for cleaning, as well as a thorough knowledge of the soil
release curve and the effects of humidity and moisture content
of solvent.
On the second day, students will study
more advanced techniques, such as the importance of
understanding and respecting spotting chemicals.
Another point of emphasis for the
day’s discussion will be the correct uses of acids,
alkalis and lubricants and how each reacts with certain fibers,
fabrics, dyes and finishes.
Sadler will also show students the proper
tools necessary for a first rate drycleaning department, as
well as detail advanced techniques such as bleaching, dye
stripping, mineral oil barriers and other useful techniques
employed in the professional stain removal process.
Registration is $99 per class for
SEFA/IFI members and $89 per class for additional members.
Non-members pay $129 per class.

East Coast School adds four courses
The East Coast
School of Drycleaning has
added four new classes to its educational calendar, including
two in September and two in October.
All will be held on the school’s
grounds in Riviera Beach, FL, at 1965 West 9th St.
The first course, an “Introduction
to Basic Spotting” taught by Rick Watson, will take place
on Saturday, Sept. 10. It is designed for those just entering
the cleaning industry or those who simply want to update their
spotting skills.
An advanced course on silk spotting will
be held on Saturday, Sept. 24. Instructor Dan Eisen will
discuss handling high-end garments and the proper use of
bleach, correction of dye bleeding, fluorescent dye breakdown
and the removal of difficult stains.
On Saturday, Oct. 8, Eisen will conduct a
counter training course. Students will learn about proper
garment inspection and the use of a “spectralight”
in the detection of stains and problem garments.
Finally, on Saturday, Oct. 22, Eisen and
Watson will jointly offer a wetcleaning course, covering the
proper use of wetcleaning chemicals to clean wools, silks and
other fabrics safely and other wetcleaning topics
