NCA plans slate of educational offerings to finish the year
The National Cleaners Association will be rounding out the year with a few upcoming educational courses at its New York School of Dry Cleaning, as well as some offerings of its new telephone seminars.
On Oct. 17, the association begins a ten-week session of its “Principles and Practices of Dry Cleaning” course at its School of Dry Cleaning, located at 252 West 29th Street (29th Street at 8th Avenue) in New York.
Altogether, students will accrue 80 hours of class time, meeting from 7 to 11 p.m. every Monday and Wednesday from the starting date until Dec. 28.
The cost to attend is $970 per person.
NCA will also host an eight-hour in-depth course on the topic of wetcleaning on Sunday, Oct. 30. The class will meet from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Members pay $250 each and non-members pay $275 per person.
In November, NCA will offer D.E.C. certification courses. A two-day, 16-hour course will meet on consecutive Sundays from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Nov. 6 and 13.
The cost is $509 for members and $975 for non-members.
The two-day certification class will also be available in Korean on Nov. 13 and 20. That class will meet from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. each Sunday. The cost is the same.
Also on NCA’s 2005 schedule are several “Webinairs,” or telephone seminars, that can be attended by cleaners located anywhere.
The new telephone series of seminars started in July, allowing busy cleaners who have little or no time for travel the opportunity to “phone it in” and still stay informed on some of the hottest topics in the industry.
Cleaners simply call in a toll-free phone number when the seminar is scheduled and enter a registration access code they acquire when registering and paying for the seminar.
The code gives drycleaners access to the seminar for the next three days and an audio copy of the presentation will be mailed for those who wish to listen again.
In addition to gaining the convenience of attending a seminar on the phone, cleaners also have an option to register for online participation and simultaneously view the powerpoint presentation that supports the seminar lecture.
Online attendees may also e-mail questions during the seminar that will be addressed in a 30-minute question-and-answer session following the conclusion of the presentation. A copy of the powerpoint presentation is available for cleaners to use as a training tool at their plant.
Upcoming phone seminars include “How to Remove the Award of Excellence Stains Plus Mustard,” scheduled for 6 p.m. ET. on Wednesday, Oct. 26.
At 3 p.m. ET. on Wednesday, Oct. 19, “Wedding Gowns: When to Say ‘I Do’ to In-House Processing and How to Select a Competent Wholesaler” will be presented by Sally Conant, director of the Association of Wedding Gown Specialists.
NCA Technical Director Alan Spielvogel will discuss “Quality Inspection and Correction: How to Inspect For Quality Cleaning and Finishing and How to Make Corrections” on Wednesday, Nov. 16 at 3 p.m. ET.
Registration costs are: $49 for NCA members and $69 for non-members for telephone participation only: For telephone and web-based participation, the cost goes up to $69 per members and $99 per non-member.
