TRSA seeks delay in UTSA merger
Members of the two associations had agreed in
special membership meetings held in August to consolidate into one
national association effective Jan. 1, 2006. The plan was unanimously
approved by the boards of directors of the two associations in June.
However, the TRSA board last month voted to delay
the consolidation, citing the fact that the two associations have still
not resolved major operational issues. TRSA recommended that the two
associations maintain their separate operations in 2006 and jointly
hire a senior-level association executive to develop a plan for
integrating the operations of the two associations. The association
executive would be charged with completing an integration plan in six
months. TRSA recommended that each association appoint three persons to
serve on a joint association advisory committee to assist in the
development of the integration plan.
TRSA said it hopes that UTSA will agree to this
proposal and that the two associations will continue cooperating in
2006.
The associations each serve corporations engaged
predominantly in textiles service — providing commercial,
industrial and institution accounts with laundered uniforms, linens,
walk-off mats and other workplace textiles through rental agreements.
Associate members of the associations sell services, equipment or
supplies to textile service members.
