NCA offers a range of opportunities in coming months
As the year winds down, the National Cleaners Association continues to offer a busy slate of educational sessions for drycleaners all across the U.S.
Spanish-speaking cleaners will have an opportunity to renew their DEC certification with a two-day class that runs on consecutive Sundays in December at NCA’s New York School.
The first class meets from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Dec. 4; the class concludes on Dec. 11, also running from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. for a total of 16 hours.
The cost is $509 per member and $975 for each non-member.
Later in the month, NCA will offer one of its “webinar” seminars on Wednesday the 14th.
Those who wish to participate by phone or online can register and receive a code that can be used to gain access to the seminar.
The seminar will begin at 6 p.m. E.T. and feature Ann Hargrove. She will discuss “Real World Wetcleaning,” sharing all of her secrets about the environmentally friendly cleaning process.
She will examine what programs cleaners should use; what chemicals are necessary; how to safely test garments; environmental viability; and the pitfalls and pluses of the wetcleaning process.
Registration fees are as follows: $49 for telephone participation only and $69 for telephone and Web-based participation. Both prices include an audio tape copy of the seminar for everyone. Power point files are available for those who paid additional for web-based participation.
Those who wish to receive a copy of the seminar on CD can pay $69 plus an additional $6 for shipping and handling.
 Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.
NCA also has two more webinars tentatively planned for early 2006. Jim Douglas of GreenEarth is scheduled for Jan. 25 and marketer Darcy Moen is slated to speak on Feb. 22.
Additional details will be announced at a later date.
Also coming up from NCA will be a four-day “Brainstorming With the Best” conference in Las Vegas from Jan. 12-15.
East Coast plant owners and managers may find it worthwhile to trek out west in search of some profitable new business ideas.
Among the educational sessions planned for the event is one by John DiJulius, owner of John Roberts Hair Salons in Cleveland, OH, who will focus his discussion on customer loyalty — how to get more referrals and how to get customers to spend more money.
Joyce Chupka, a graduate of Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, will look at how to apply principles of Total Quality Management (TQM) toward employee development, commitment and retention.
NCA has also set some conference time aside on Sunday morning to allow cleaners time to brainstorm amongst themselves.
The cost is $595 for members and $695 for non-members. Spouses pay $245 each to attend.
That cost includes admission to all seminars plus a welcome reception and networking breakfasts planned for each morning. Training materials are also counted into the cost.
Those who wish to procure accommodations at the Four Seasons — the host hotel — can take advantage of a special room rate of $310 a night extended to NCA guests. Many other hotel options are available as well.
Cleaners seeking more information on the “Brainstorming with the Best” conference or any other upcoming NCA program, should call (800) 888-1622 or visit www.nca-i.com.
