Meijer, Silvestri speak at WFI’s February convention
It will certainly be cold outside in Wisconsin this February, but attendees of the Wisconsin Fabricare Institute’s annual convention and table tops will be too busy inside to care.
The event is scheduled to take place on the three-day weekend of Feb. 10-12 at the American Club in Kohler, WI.
Headlining this year’s show will be IFI vice president John Meijer, who will deliver two separate discussions.
The first will focus on “Obtaining and Retaining Customers on a Limited Budget”; the other will be on how cleaners can find and attract their core customer group.
Joining Meijer will be fellow speakers Scott Silvestri, the Kohler Co.’s director of destination marketing and communications, and Joseph Bossi of Strategic Wealth Management Group, LLC, a Mass Mutual Financial Group that provides an array of financial products and services for its clients.
Silvestri, who once served as a member of the 2004 PGA Championship Executive Committee and was responsible for publicity and marketing for the event, will inform attendees on the topic of customer service standards and training.
Bossi’s seminar will be entitled “Sure Ways to Kill Your Business.”
In addition to the seminars, WFI will keep attendees busy with a table top reception on Saturday.
Later in the evening, the association will honor several successful industry people — including the Fitzgerald Scholarship winners and the state’s Five Star program participants — and a new WFI Hall of Fame inductee will be announced during a banquet.
For information or to register, call WFI office, (414) 529-4707.

Achin to lead spotting class in Cincinnati
The secret to good spotting is having the right tools and chemicals, a clean spotting board, and a good teacher. Cleaners who want to brush up their stain removal skills can be taught by one of the industry’s best — Mike Achin, director of chemical products for Laidlaw.
He will be at the Machinex Corporation at 11445 Rockfield Court in Cincinnati, Ohio, on January 18 and 19.
Achin will teach a course suitable for cleaners of any spotting experience. The class is designed to explain the chemistry of spotting and how not to set stains. He will also discuss digesters and many tricks that can save time.
The course, which is co-sponsored by the Ohio Cleaners Association and the E.J. Thomas Co., will run on two consecutive evenings from 6:30 to 9 p.m.
The first night will focus on classroom instruction; the second will be devoted to hands-on training at the spotting board.
The cost is $50 for OCA members and $100 for non-members.
For more information, contact Ed Share, sales consultant for Laidlaw Corporation, at (440) 241-8628.
A registration form for the class is also available at the Ohio Cleaners Association web site, located at www.ohiocleaners.org. Click on the “Calendar of Events” link on the left hand side of the home page and you will be taken to a page housing a direct link to the registration form.
