Restorationists plan annual convention in
Savannah
The latest products and technology for
the cleaning and restoration industry will be on display at the
annual convention held by the Association of Specialists in
Cleaning and Restorations.
The “Solutions Convention”
will take place from March 14-17 at the Westin Savannah
Harbor Resort in Savannah, GA.
The event will feature more than 90
vendors and industry suppliers at 140 booths and over 20 hours
of seminars covering textiles, business, environmental and
restoration issues.
On Tuesday, March 14, ASCR will start
things rolling with a shotgun scramble golf tournament at 11
a.m. The cost is $200, which includes greens fees, cart, range
balls, and a boxed lunch and beer reception. Those who wish to
participate must register in advance by Feb. 14.
At 8 a.m. the following morning,
registration will open. Later in the day, attendees can tour
the exhibit hall between 3 and 6 p.m.
Also that evening, there will be a new
member roundtable from 5 to 6 p.m. and a welcome reception and
networking from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
On Thursday, the education begins. Chip
Bell will deliver a keynote address on “Magnetic Customer
Service” at 7:45 a.m.
Afterward, attendees will have a chance
to stump an ASCR panel of experts with a lively Q & A
“Tech-Know Challenge” session.
Throughout the convention, there will be
several guest speakers discussing a variety of
restoration-related topics.
Some of the speakers and subjects include:
“Persian Rugs as an Expression of Culture” by
consultant Barry O’ Connell; “Thermal Treatments:
Benefits and Misconceptions” by Ralph E. Moon, Ph.D., of
HAS Engineers and Scientists; “Environmental Laws and
Regulations: What You Don’t Know WILL Hurt You” by
David M. Governo, J.D., Governo Law Firm LLC;
“Environmentally Friendly Cleaning” by Melinda
Burn, Ph.D., INVISTA, Inc.; “Management/Sales-Package
Selling” by management consultant and trainer Jerry R.
Salmon; and “Construction and Deconstruction: Identifying
Oriental Carpets by Weave” by Robert Mann of Woven
Legends Restoration.
Additionally, there will be a panel
discussion on “Infrared Technology” and a
discussion of “ASCR Initiatives” by Rusty Amarante
and Pete Consigli. They will give an update on what’s
going on in the areas of standardized contracts, as well as
ASCR’s involvement with the cleanup efforts in the
aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
Early Bird registration discounts of $75
off per person are available for those who sign up by Feb. 7,
2006. After that date, the cost is $670 each for ASCR members
and $870 each for non-members. Spouse registration costs $450
per person.
The registration covers all of the
seminars and most of the networking events, including a St.
Patrick’s Day party from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday.
However, those who wish to attend an
Antiques Tour on Wednesday from 9:15 a.m. until 2 p.m. must pay
another $90 each. That fee includes a lunch and transportation
to three of Savannah’s best antique galleries.
