School needs prom dress donations
A school in eastern Oklahoma needs donations of prom dresses to help young girls who are learning social skills as part of an overall education program.
The Talking Leaves Job Corps serves students who are primarily of the Cherokee Nation and other Indian tribes. The school sponsors formal nights several times a year to help the students socialize in addition to the vocational training programs that are part of the regular curriculum.
Industry consultant and educator Everett Childers is appealing to drycleaners to help the school by donating prom dresses they may have among unclaimed stock.
The school, Childers said, does “a lot of good for youth that haven't had a real good start in life and it is really exciting to watch them learn their social skills and begin using them to better themselves.”
In particular, the school could use dresses in sizes 12 to 24.
Donations can be sent to Childers at 115 Mockingbird Lane, Tahlequah, OK 74464. He can be reached by e-mail at echild@okmedia.net.
