ODCA plans May seminars, October convention
With so many small drycleaning plant owners wearing many hats at their business, it is often difficult to find time to attend educational seminars and keep updated on the changes in the industry.
In an effort to make things more convenient for its members, the Oregon Dry Cleaner’s Association will present two seminars on the same day in May.
Both will be held on Saturday, May 20 at Cathy’s Cleaners in Bend, OR.
The first program will begin at 11 a.m.
A factory representative will be on hand to demonstrate tensioning equipment and attendees will be able to see how it works and ask questions.
Afterward, ODCA will present another seminar covering the topic of “What to Expect During a DEQ Inspection.”
With the state’s Department of Environmental Quality inspecting more and more cleaners in the past year, now is a good time to find out exactly what they are looking for.
Cleaners will learn how to put their facilities in order and be able to fill out all of their paperwork properly.
At lunchtime, ODCA will cook hot dogs and serve soft drinks so cleaners will have more time to see the tensioning equipment in action and converse with the DEQ official.
The association will also host a board meeting at the end of the day.
The cost to attend both sessions is free for all ODCA members and $25 each for non-members.
Later in the year, ODCA will hold its annual convention October 20-22 at Spirit Mountain Casino and Resort in Northern Oregon.
Currently, the convention committee is arranging for speakers and planning activities. More information will be available in the near future.

NWDCA ushers in new officers
When the Northwest Dry Cleaners Association Council met recently in Kirkland, WA, a new group of officers were elected for the coming term.
Topping the list at the position of president is a pair of brothers, Scott and Chuck Brown, who will work as “co-presidents”. They hail from Cox Cleaners in Kirkland.
Richard Turner, owner of Madison-Carnolia Cleaners and the association’s former president will now sport the label “immediate past president.” He will continue to work with NWDCA in a government liaison capacity and on matters related to state labor and industries.
He will work in conjunction with Deborah Rechnitz of Methods For Management, who has retained her position as executive director.
Elected to the position of vice president (and president-elect) is Eldon Bartleheimer, owner of Hill Street Cleaners in Monroe, WA.
The association also announced its new Council members, including: Richard Pakko of 4 Seasons Cleaners; Steve Ritt of LeatherCare Cleaners; Craig Clampitt of Clampitt’s Cleaners; and Bud Bakker of Dynamic Sales & Service, who will act as the Allied Trades representative.
During the meeting, NWDCA also made early plans for upcoming programs, including seminars on spotting and wetcleaning, the dates of which will be available in the near future.
