SDA scholarship deadline is Oct. 31
Qualified applicants from the Southwest
Drycleaners Association’s body of membership have until an Oct. 31
deadline to complete an application in order to be eligible for
a scholarship.
Funds for the scholarship are made
available from the Herrington-Parker-Worthington-Assunto
Scholarship Fund. Recipients can apply the scholarship toward
tuition for SDA’s stain removal or advanced stain removal
course at the International Textile Center located on the
campus of Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX.
SDA will conduct its next stain removal
course Nov. 13-15. The association will also offer an advanced
stain removal course Nov. 15-17. Both classes will be taught by
instructor Jane Zellers.
To qualify for an SDA scholarship,
applicants must meet the following requirements: be at least 19
years of age; have a high school diploma or GED equivalent (a
minimum 10th grade education is acceptable with special
recommendation of employer); have at least one year experience
in the industry; be an owner or employee of a company that is a
member of the Southwest Drycleaners Association.
Members of the association’s board
of directors or their immediate families are not eligible for
the scholarship program.

edtion of SDA’s publication, Southwest Press.

SPOT users group meets at Utah resort
The sixth annual SPOT
International Users Conference will
be an opportunity for cleaners to explore and gain a better
understanding of the latest features available in the
company’s software and computer system innovations.
SPOT Business Systems, LLC, will host the
event from Aug. 10-12 at the Cliff Lodge at the Snowbird Ski
and Summer Resort in Snowbird, Utah.
SPOT has planned a three-day schedule,
starting on Thursday, Aug. 10, with an optional open house and
lunch at 11:30 a.m. at Westgate Software, Inc.’s
corporate offices. The offices are located at 12345 S. 300 East
in Draper, UT, about 30 minutes away from the airport and the
Snowbird Resort.
Afterward, there will be a field trip to
hosting facility Center 7 from 2 to 3 p.m., and one to an
off-site data storage facility from 4 to 4:45 p.m.
Westgate will provide the transportation
for those who wish to participate on the tour.
The evening’s activities will
conclude with a welcome reception at the Snowbird Resort at 7
p.m.
On Friday morning, the general
educational sessions will begin at 8:30 a.m. Cleaners will be
given an update of SPOT Business Systems, including a look at
their new technologies and new feature highlights.
Following a day of seminars and
roundtable discussions, cleaners can convene at 5 p.m. for the
“Spot Racing Series.”
Those who purchase full registration
packages will have a ticket for the Alpine Slide and the Zip
Rider, two breath-taking rides. For more information on the

Later, there will a cocktail party at 6
p.m. and a casual “Dinner on the River” at 7 p.m.
On Saturday, SPOT will present another
day-long series of information sessions, including one designed
specifically for beginners and one for more advanced users.
Attendees can also take advantage of a
general question and answer session, as well.
The cost for a full registration package
for this year’s conference is $529 per person, which
includes: all meetings and materials for Friday and Saturday;
the Thursday welcome reception; full breakfast buffets on
Friday and Saturday; lunch buffets on Friday and Saturday; the
“Dinner by the River” and cocktail party hosted on
Saturday evening; and a ticket for the Zip Rider and the Alpine
Slide.
Attendees can enjoy four-star amenities,
including an on-site concierge and a world class spa, for only
$99 per night.
