More classes, webinars offered by NCA
this fall
Cleaners seeking to round out their
drycleaning education will have several opportunities at the National
Cleaners Association’s New
York School of Drycleaning in the coming months.
The school, which is licensed by the New
York State Department of Education, is located at 254 W. 29th
St. in New York City.
Coming up in September, NCA will host a
“Comprehensive Drycleaning” course in Korean that
will meet for a total of 80 hours. The class will meet from 7
to 11 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday between Sept. 9 and Nov.
9 of this year.
The cost for the 10-week course is $970
for members and $1,170 for non-members.
On Sunday, Sept. 10, the association will
offer an eight-hour course on the topic of wetcleaning. It will
begin at 8:30 a.m. and run until 5 p.m. Tuition is $250 for
members and $275 for non-members.
Member cleaners who want to enroll in
NCA’s course on “Radical Drycleaning/Stain
Removal” must pay $750 each. Non-members must pay $995.
The class will meet from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day from
Sept. 25-29 for a total of 40 class hours.
New York Department of Environmental
Conservation certification courses will be taught in two-day
increments during the months of September and October.
A course taught in English will meet from
9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on consecutive Sundays, Sept. 17 and 24. A
Korean course will take place from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays
Oct. 8 and 15. Both courses cost $509 per member and $975 per
non-member.
Starting in October, a “Principles
and Practices of Pressing” course runs every Monday and
Wednesday evening from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. The class will start
on Oct. 16 and go through Nov. 8, for a total of 24 hours of
instruction time. Those who wish to attend must pay $380 each.
In an effort to offer more convenience,
NCA will also be hosting several upcoming webinars, which allow
for cleaners to attend an educational seminar via a telephone
or a on the internet with a web browser.
The next scheduled webinar is for
Wednesday, Sept. 20 at 6 p.m. EST. Alan Spielvogel will explore
the topic of “Safe Bleaching Tips.”
On Wednesday, Oct. 18, 6 p.m. EST, there
will be a webinar on the topic of “Door to Door
Selling.”
Later in the year, NCA also has plans for
an “Equipment Preventive Maintenance” webinar on
Nov. 15, and a “Dos and Don’ts of Drapery webinar
on Dec. 20.
Attendance is on a first-come,
first-served basis. The cost is $69 for telephone and web-based
participation. That price includes an audio tape of the seminar
with power point files for web-based participants.
Cleaners can also pay $69 plus $7
shipping and handling for a webinar CD.

NCA has also made some early plans for
2007, including an offering of its popular “Brainstorming
with the Best” conference. It will be held from January
11-14, 2007 at the Atlantis Hotel in the Bahamas.
Later in 2007, NCA will host its TexCare
convention and trade show at the Meadowlands Convention Center
in Secaucus, NJ, on Oct. 20 and 21.
