LOMBARD, IL — Dry Cleaning Technologies has designated Veolia Environmental Services as the preferred waste disposal service provider for drycleaners throughout the United States who are using the company’s new product, DrySolv, which was developed by Dry Cleaning Technologies to replace perc and other cleaning chemicals used in drycleaning in an existing Class IV machine or hydrocarbon machine.

The company noted that while DrySolv does not generate a hazardous waste still bottom, when it is used as a replacement, there can still be perc present in residual waste from drycleaning processes and these wastes must be disposed of as hazardous waste.

In a system using DrySolv, perc may still be present in spotting chemicals and soaps and residually in equipment — seals, gaskets, dead spaces, low spots, and lint. As a result, perc will continue to appear in still bottoms, so the waste must be considered as hazardous waste.

Rudy Vingris, program manager at Veolia’s Technical Solutions division, said that under US EPA regulations, 0.7 ppm of perc in a waste is the threshold at which it is regulated as a hazardous waste, but there may still be some risk that these levels could be exceeded in still bottoms.

Dry cleaners who use DrySolv can dispose of their waste through Veolia Environmental Services, who will be responsible for transporting and disposing of the waste safely and legally. The waste is taken to facilities where it is blended with other materials to produce a waste-derived fuel, which is used in industrial furnaces as a substitute for fossil fuels.

Veolia Environmental Services, a provider of hazardous waste management services in the United States, has a network of over 40 service centers, treatment, recovery and disposal facilities and transportation locations.

The company is part of Veolia Environnement, a Paris-based company with revenues exceeding $29 billion, which operates in 65 countries through 1,340 companies.

Dry Cleaning Technologies, the manufacturer of DrySolv, is part of Enviro Tech International Inc., which also owns Baron Blakeslee, one of the oldest and most respected names in vapor degreasing equipment. DrySolv is being used in Pennsylvania, Alabama, Georgia, Texas, Washington and llinois.
