Stain removal, drycleaning courses this spring at IFI
Cleaners who want to improve their industry skills will have several options in
the coming months at the
International Fabricare Institute’s school in Laurel, MD.
Starting on Monday, March 19, IFI will present its one-week course on “Cleaning and Stain Removal” that breaks down the principles of drycleaning.
Topics to be covered include: fabrics and fibers, load classification, solvents
used in drycleaning, troubleshooting machinery, stain removal tools and
equipment, and many others.
Tuition is $450 for members and $695 for non-members.
The following month, the IFI school will offer its one-week course on “Introduction to Drycleaning” beginning on the April 23, and a two-week “Advanced Drycleaning” course starting on April 30.
The introductory course is designed to help individuals new to the industry,
including employees and owners/managers with less than one year of experience.
Topics include: work flow; the principles of the drycleaning process; assembly
and invoicing; the drycleaning machine; cleaning and drying cycles; elementary
stain removal; and finishing procedures for pants, coats, and skirts.
The cost is $450 for members and $695 for non-members.
The advanced course is ideal for cleaners with more than one year of production
experience or those who have completed the introductory course.
It will examine: specialty fabrics and fiber identification; advanced stain
removal procedures and bleaches; finishing blouses, dresses, ties, all -weather
coats, pleats, pile fabrics, silks, and rayon; wetcleaning; solvents,
detergents, moisture, filtration, and distillation for perchloroethylene and
petroleum systems; troubleshooting the drycleaning system; regulations and care
labeling; plant layout and work flow; customer service; and business
management.
The cost is $900 for members and $1,400 for non-members.
Both courses will be repeated in July. “Introduction to Drycleaning” is slated to begin on Monday, July 23; “Advanced Drycleaning” will start on Monday, July 30. The drycleaning courses will be offered for the
final time this year in October 22. The cleaning and stain removal course will
be offered again in September.
PDCA seminars aim to improve the bottom line
The Pennsylvania and Delaware Cleaners Association’s 2007 educational program will include two seminars designed to help cleaners
increase their business
’s bottom line.
Both will be held in Harrisburg during the first half of the year.
On Thursday, March 15, the association will enlist the aid of its president, Joe
Schmidt, to deliver a seminar on
“How I Cut My Costs.”
Schmidt will explain to attendees how he cut his costs and made his company more
profitable.
The associaton will return to Harrisburg on Saturday, May 19 to present a
program on the topic of
“Maintenance and Safety.”
The all-day program will focus on money-saving and profit-boosting themes:
keeping your equipment running, and meeting OSHA requirements to avoid injuries
and fines.
