Cleaners from around the United States and Canada gathered at the Atlantis Resort and Casino in the Bahamas for National Cleaners Association ’s fourth annual Brainstorming Conference Jan.11-14.
This year, NCA continued its tradition of bringing in top speakers from both within and outside the industry to lead informative educational sessions.
Jeff Hargett, director of corporate training from the Ritz Carlton shared secrets for developing a world-class team culture in order to provide world class service to customers.
Lynda Wood of Davis-Imperial Cleaners in Chicago Illinois, a member of Leading Cleaners Internationale and one of two recommended drycleaners in Esquire Magazine ’s Black Book, said, “This program was perfection. It was precisely the right message for me to bring home to my people, and Rick and I are excited to go back and get to work on many of the ideas we were exposed to this weekend. ”
Also speaking was John DiJulius of the John Roberts Spa and Salon. He told Brainstormers how to adapt the promotional and marketing strategies that have helped him build his fledgling salons into a multi- million dollar enterprise.
From referral contests to partnering programs and customer loyalty plans, Brainstormers heard about ideas on how to grow their existing customer base and increase spending with existing customers, without making huge investments in advertising dollars.
“DiJulius was inspirational and I think a lot of the higher-end cleaners really appreciated Hargett ’s tips,” said Jan Barlow of Jan’s Professional Dry Cleaners, Clio, Mich. “I also enjoyed reconnecting with old friends and meeting new people.”
“Our goal for the conference is to bring cleaners together from the West Coast to the East and as far away as Canada to make new friends, learn new ideas and re-energize, ” Nealis said.
“The conference features speakers you don’t usually see on the ‘drycleaning circuit,’” said Mark Scott of Bakker’s Fine Dry Cleaning in Seattle, WA. “This is a conference where you’re introduced to new ideas, fresh thinking and a great group of cleaners to brainstorm with. ”
NCA is looking for destination recommendations for next year’s conference to be held Jan. 17-20, 2008. Anyone with suggestions is invited to call Ann Hargrove, (800) 888-1622.
