Norford plans to leave MAC; association elects new officers
After 17 years as the MidAtlantic Association of Cleaners’ executive director/vice president, David Norford will be stepping down this summer.
Recently, he announced that his resignation from MAC would take place on June 30.
Norford, a former IFI director, has long been a staple for the Mid-Atlantic association, helping cleaners behind-the-scenes for almost two decades.
Last year, he signed on as IFI’s director of marketing to assist in communicating the organization’s benefits and services to its affiliated professional cleaners.

Other changes were recently made at MAC, as well. The association recently announced its officers for the new term.
Michael McKay, owner of LaVale Dryclean in Cumberland, MD, now serves as president. Joining him will be new vice president Russ Kaplan of Zips Drycleaners in College Park, MD.
The new treasurer will be James Crowder, who owns Edmondson Cleaners in South Boston, VA. Last year ’s president, Charles Smith, will move to the position of immediate past president.
Several new directors joined MAC’s board. Diane Chatelain of Presto Valet in Alexandria, VA, will be the director of the Potomac District.
Joining her will be Gene Moorefield, owner of Moorefield’s Quality Cleaners, in Altavista, VA, who will represent the Blue Ridge District.
In Maryland, Dale Trupp of Fashion Craft Cleaners in Bethesda will oversee the Maryland/District of Columbia Atlantic District.
Mike Garman of Glyndon Lord Baltimore Cleaners will return for another term as the director of the Maryland Harbor District.
A pair of cleaners will return for their second year on the board: Tom Williams of Suffolk Quality Cleaners in Suffolk, VA.
Lastly, representing West Virginia with an At-Large position, will be long-time director Charles Young of Peter Pan Cleaners in Charleston.

PDCA plans seminars on cost cutting, maintenance
The Pennsylvania and Delaware Cleaners Association hopes to make 2007 an educational year for member cleaners.
To that end, during the first half of the year, the association will host two seminars in Harrisburg designed to make cleaners more successful.
The first program is scheduled for Thursday, March 15 and will be called “How I Cut My Costs.” PDCA President Joe Schmidt will reveal to attendees how he cut his own operating costs in order to make his plant much more profitable.
Also on the agenda is a maintenance seminar on Saturday, May 19. Association members wil be able to examine the subject of “Maintenance and Safety.”
The all-day program will focus on several money-saving and profit-boosting themes, including: keeping your equipment running, and meeting OSHA requirements to avoid injuries and fines.
