NCA classes offered on line, at NY School
March and April will be busy months at the National Cleaners Association’s New York School of Dry Cleaning located at 254 W. 29th St. in New York City.
Upcoming offerings will include several comprehensive courses, including a
five-day, 40-hour
“Radical Drycleaning/Stain Removal” course.
The program will meet from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, March
12-17. The cost is $750 for members and $995 for non-members.
Prior to that class, NCA will present an English language offering of its
two-day DEC certification course that meets on consecutive Sundays, March 11
and 18, from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m.
Members must pay $509 each; non-members must pay $975 each.
Also in March, NCA will begin a Korean-language session of its ten-week “Comprehensive Dry-cleaning” program.
Attendees will accumulate 80 hours of experience meeting every Tuesday and
Thursday from 7 to 11 p.m. starting on March 20 and concluding on May 24.
Registration is $970 per member and $1,170 per non-member.
Beginning on April 2, NCA will host a ten-week session of its thorough “Principles and Practices of Drycleaning” course.
The class will meet Mondays and Wednesdays from 7 to 11 p.m. for a total of 80
hours.
Students will learn everything they need to know in order to become a master
cleaner, from the chemistry of stain removal to garment construction, fiber
identification and machinery operation and maintenance.
The class’s final installment will take place on June 6. Tuition is $970 per person.
Instructional aids, which include $40 for the Student Notebook and $40 for the
Fabric Book, are optional.
Not all educational opportunities from NCA will take place at its New York
school. Some sessions are ideally suited for cleaners who simply want to pick
up a telephone or look at their web browser in the comfort of their own plant
or home.
The association will offer a multitude of convenient webinars in the coming
months. First up will be a program on
“The Secrets of Successfully Selling Your Wedding Gown Service” by Susan Sternshein on March 7.
Other offerings in the near future include: “Unharnessing the Power of Public Relations” by Kirsten Whitten of G.T. Graphics and Marketing on March 21; “Getting New Customer Strategies for Your Routes” on April 4; and “Draperies: Everything From Take Down to Re-Hang” on April 18.
NCA has tentatively planned over a dozen webinars throughout 2007. All webinars
take place at 6 p.m. eastern time on Wednesdays. The cost is $69 for telephone
and Web-based participation.
The price includes an audio tape of the seminar for everyone, as well as
PowerPoint files for web-based participation.
Cleaners can also purchase webinars on CD for $69 plus $7 shipping and handling
