SDA plans convention, announces ITC classes
The Southwest Drycleaners Association will keep cleaners busy throughout 2007 with several offerings of its Lubbock school courses and its annual convention slated for April 13-15 in Clear Lake, TX.
The weekend event will be hosted at the Hilton NASA Clear Lake Hotel, which is located across the entrance from the Space Center Houston, the official visitor center of NASA ’s Johnson Space Center (a.k.a. NASA’s Mission Control Center).
Plans are still underway, but SDA will host numerous seminars, tours and social events.
The weekend will also be a great time for cleaners looking for fun that is, literally, out of this world. The NASA center has a vast collection of actual spacecraft and other flight memorabilia. Visitors can study the accomplishments of NASA and the American manned space flight program with a behind-the-scenes tour.
Later in the year, SDA will help cleaners go back to school with several class offerings at its International Textile Center on the campus of Texas Tech University in Lubbock.
From June 4-8, the association will present a comprehensive general fabricare course.
The class is well-suited for newcomers to the industry, as well as seasoned veterans.
The course covers a wide variety of topics, such as: basic customer service; fibers and fabrics; basic stain removal; drycleaning technology; the proper classification of garments; finishing/pressing techniques; and much more.
In November, SDA will also deliver two stain removal classes. A basic course is set from Monday to Wednesday, Nov. 12-14; an advanced stain removal course will run from Wednesday to Friday, Nov. 14-16.
For more information on SDA’s upcoming convention or any of its International Textile Center classes, visit the association ’s web site located at www.sda-dryclean.com or call (210) 826-4684.
Royaltone sets dates for classes

Course dates include: May 10 and 11, Sept. 13 and 14, and Nov. 8 and 9.

Tuition for the course costs $400 per attendee; however, there are discounts available for multiple attendees from the same plant.
All cleaners who sign up should already possess knowledge of how to spot, clean and press cloth garments before taking the course.
