Using a non-perforated grid plate
A non-perforated grid plate can improve your leather pressing.
Pressing the wrinkles out of suede or leather with high quality results can be done safely and effectively by using a non-perforated grid plate in place of your regular perforated grid plate on the head of your drycleaning steam press.

As you know, your steam press has a perforated grid plate fastened to the press head with three springs on each end of the head that go over the top of the head. This perforated grid plate has either a metal face (often covered with a Teflon coating) or a cloth cover over the metal face. In either case, the plate has perforations or small pin holes closely and equally spaced all over the face of the plate.
These pin holes permit the head steam to reach the cloth garments being pressed. The holes act as steam diffusers causing an even and uniform flow of steam to reach the cloth fabrics being pressed, while the plate applies heat and pressure to the cloth to press out the wrinkles.
With suede and leather, as you already know, you do not want live steam to reach the skin, unless it can be regulated down to 40 psi steam pressure or lower, or it will most likely damage the skin by causing it to shrivel up and draw up.
Use of the non-perforated grid plate is an excellent way to not only ensure that no live steam will ever reach the skin to damage it, but also that the plate will be heated by the release of head steam. This heated, non-perforated grid plate will then do an excellent job of safely pressing wrinkles out of suede and leather.
The improvement in the quality of the press job, especially on leather, when pressed with the non-perforated grid plate heated by normal head steam is unbelievable. Compared to the quality which can be achieved with the regular perforated drycleaning grid plate with no steam or even with reduced steam pressure, the pressing quality with the non-perforated grid plate is outstanding.
The pressing quality is only second to the quality of the pressing that can be achieved with a hot-head press. For the improvement in the quality of the pressing that the non-perforated grid plate makes possible, it is well worth its low cost.
