SDA lists seminar topics for April convention Clear Lake
Among the headline speakers for the Southwest Drycleaners Association’s April convention will be a self-proclaimed follower of “barber-osophy”.
Terry Sumerlin, who writes regular columns for the San Antonio Business Journal
and the North San Antonio Times, utilizes a common sense approach in relating
to people
— employees and customers alike.
He often uses entertaining stories to illustrate how one’s behaviors affects others. He has been a motivational speaker for over ten
years.
During his Friday evening “Unchangeables in a Changing Marketplace” seminar at SDAs’ convention, he will employ his humorous approach to illustrate some important
life lessons and help provide insight for attendees that will ultimately help
them reduce employee turnover, increase loyalty and cooperation, increase
customer satisfaction, and experience fewer job-related burnouts.
Those who want to learn a little more about Sumerlin’s unique “barber-osophy” prior to the convention can visit his official web site located online at
www.barber-osophy.com.
Also present at the weekend event will be IFI’s Jim Kirby, who will offer a program on “Stain Removal Etiquette.” It will begin at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 17.
The emphasis of his seminar will be helping cleaners break all of those bad
habits that accumulate along with experience at the spotting board.
In addition to providing educational seminars for attendees, SDA plans to host a
general membership meeting with IFI President Steve Poulos making an appearance
as guest speaker. It will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
The association will also host a welcome reception on Friday evening from 6:30
to 9:30 p.m. where cleaners can meet the officers and directors of SDA.
During the weekend, convention-goers will have plenty of opportunities for fun
and relaxation, as well. From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, there will be an
optional
“Sport Fishing” contest in Galveston Bay.
Registration is $100 per person, minimum in multiples of fours. The price
includes transport, rods, reels, bait, tackle, fish cleaners and packaging.
Prizes will be awarded at the end.
Also on Friday, cleaners can take part in a tour of the NASA Space Center in
Clear Lake from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and see the Space Shuttle Training Facility,
the Apollo Mission Control and more. The cost is $19 per person.
Those who prefer the green fairways to outer space and the open sea will want to
sign up for a golf outing on Friday at noon. It will be held at the Bay Oaks
Country Club. Registration is $95 per person.
On Saturday, SDA will host an optional tour of Kemah, where Capt. Jim Keller
will pick up participants at the Hilton and take them on a boat cruise around
the harbor. The cost is $40 per person; however, at least 25 people must sign
up.
The convention will be held at the Hilton NASA Clear Lake Hotel, located on the
Gulf of Mexico at 3000 NASA Parkway. Hotel rooms are available for a discounted
nightly rate of $99 for single or double occupancy.
SDA is also offering full registration packages at $150 per member if paid in
advance. Non-member registration is $180 per person prior to that date. Kids
under 12 are $90.
