DLI hosts general cleaning, stain removal courses
Cleaners of all levels of experience and knowledge can certainly stand to benefit by the comprehensive courses offered at the Drycleaning and Laundry Institute’s Laurel headquarters.
In the coming months, the association will offer three in-depth courses on introductory cleaning, advanced cleaning and stain removal.
From July 23-27, the one-week “Introductory to Dry Cleaning” course is specifically tailored to help individuals new to the industry, including employees and managers/owners with less than one year of production experience.
The curriculum will focus on: fibers and fabrics; work flow; principles of the drycleaning process; assembly and invoicing; the drycleaning machine; cleaning and drying cycles; elementary stain removal; and finishing procedures for pants, coats and skirts.
The cost for the course is $695 for IFI members and $1,049 for non-members.
Cleaners who complete the introductory course may want to expand their knowledge with the two-week “Advanced Dry Cleaning” course designed for employees and managers with more than one year of production experience.
DLI will host the course, which starts on July 30 and concludes Aug. 10.
The advanced course will cover: specialty fabrics and fiber identification; advanced stain removal procedures and bleaches; finishing blouses, dresses, ties, all-weather coats, pleats, pile fabrics, silks and rayon; wetcleaning; solvents, detergents, moisture, filtration and distillation for perchloroethylene and petroleum systems; and troubleshooting the drycleaning system.
Students will also learn about regulations and care labeling, plant layout and work flow, customer service and business management.
Tuition is $1,149 for DLI members and $1,649 for non-members.
From Sept. 17-21, DLI’s school will be back in session for a one-week “Cleaning and Stain Removal” course.
The course costs $695 per member and $1,049 per non-member.
Attendees will learn about a variety of topics, such as: fibers and fabrics; principles of drycleaning; load classification; solvents used in drycleaning; detergents and moisture; filtration and distillation; drying and vapor recovery; troubleshooting dry-cleaning machines; stain removal tools and equipment; and stain removal agents and procedures, including bleaches.

CPDA plans golf benefit for Sept. 20
On Sept. 20, the Carl Gardner Golf Tournament, which benefits the York County Special Olympics, will be at the Briarwood Country Club in York, PA.
The Central Pennsylvania Drycleaners Association sponsors the event, which was started 16 years ago by Carl Gardner. The event was renamed to include Gardner ’s name after he passed away in June of 2006.
The outing includes 18 holes of golf, free range balls, lunch, dinner and beer and soda. The entry fee is $85.
