NCA schedules webinars, classes
This summer, things will heat up at the National Cleaners Association’s New York School of Drycleaning as the association gets set to offer a multitude of informative classes.
The school is located at 252 W. 29th St. in New York City, NY.
On Sunday, July 15, an eight-hour course on “Intensive Inspection and Innovative Packaging” is planned.
It will run from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. Tuition is $250 for members and $275 for non-members.
Next up will be a five-day course on “Radical Drycleaning/ Stain Removal” that meets for a total of 40 hours between Aug. 6-10. Class runs from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The cost is $750 per member and $995 per non-member.
Even while temperatures drop off in September, NCA will continue on its torrid pace. Throughout the month, the association will host two-day, 16-hour Department of Environmental Conservation courses.
The first session will be held  on Sept. 9 and 16. A second offering, this time in Korean, is planned on Sept. 16 and 23.
The class will meet from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. on consecutive Sundays. Attendees pay $595 each if they are members; however, that price climbs to $1,095 each for non-members.
Late in the year, NCA will host another two-day DEC Certification course on Dec. 2 and 9.
NCA will also present an offering of one of its flagship courses — Principles and Practices of Pressing — starting on Sept. 10. The class meets Mondays and Wednesdays from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. for four consecutive weeks, comprising a total of 24 hours of class time.
Because proper pressing and finishing is so critical to the success of a drycleaning operation, NCA will emphasize the right way to finish a garment during the class.
Other topics will include: how to correct the pressing mistakes of others and how to select and use the right piece of equipment for a given job. The class will also cover information about ancillary tools, equipment maintenance and packaging. Tuition is $380 per student.
Next on the schedule is a ten-week, 80-hour “Comprehensive Drycleaning” course taught in Korean. The program will run on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7 to 11 p.m. between Sept. 18 and Nov. 22.
The cost is $970 for members and $1,170 for non-members.
Rounding out the classes for the month will be a one-day outing on “Drapery Cleaning and Marketing,” which meets from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 30. Members pay only $250 and non-members pay $275.
In October, cleaners wanting to learn more about fire restoration will have an opportunity on Oct. 5 and 6. A class will meet from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Tuition is $275 for members and $325 for non-members.
Later in the month, NCA will start its ten-week, 40-hour “Principles and Practices of Drycleaning” course. It will meet Mondays and Wednesdays from 7 to 11 p.m. between Oct. 22 and Dec. 19. The cost is $970.
On Sunday, Oct. 28, cleaners can learn more about wetcleaning between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. The cost of the course is $250 for members and $275 for non-members.
Finally, NCA will round out the schedule at its New York School with a one-day session on “Hand Finishing — The Lost Art.” The class takes place on Sunday, Dec. 2 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. It also costs $250 for members and $275 for non-members.
Internet seminars
Not all cleaners will have time to make the trek to New York to attend NCA’s school this year, but that doesn’t mean they won’t have opportunities to take the association’s educational courses.
NCA will be offering a wide range of webinars in the coming months so attendees won ’t even have to leave their own plant if they do not wish to do so.
All webinars take place on designated Wednesdays, starting at 6 p.m. EST. The cost is only $69 for telephone and Web-based participation.
That price includes an audio tape of the seminar for everyone and PowerPoint files for Web-based attendees.
There is limited participation, however, so early registration is recommended.
Upcoming webinar topics include “Restoration Tips” on July 18; “Employee Morale” on Aug. 1; “Innovative Packaging” on Aug. 15; “Stain Removal on Problem Fabrics” on Sept. 5; “Diversification to Coin Laundry” on Sept. 19; “Winterize and Save on Utilities” on Oct. 3 and “Advanced Wetcleaning” on Oct. 17.
Later in the year, NCA will host “Branding: How To Brand Your Business” on Nov. 20; “Call Office Makeover” on Dec. 5; and “Finishing w/Tensioning Equipment” on Dec. 19.
