ODCA set for educational weekend in Wild Springs
Cleaners who want to get away from their plants for a weekend would be hard pressed to find a more remote and relaxing option than the Kah-Nee-Ta Desert Resort and Casino in Warm Springs, Oregon.
The unique resort is nestled in the heart of a 600,000-acre high desert paradise.
It has lodgings, a casino, an 18-hole championship golf course, and, on Oct. 5 & 6, it will have the Oregon Dry Cleaners Association’s annual convention and tabletop display.
Each of the 139 guest rooms offers inspiring views. Check-in is at 4:30 p.m.
Those attending the convention can secure room reservations by contacting the hotel directly at (800) 554-4786.
Golfers will want to head to the resort early on Friday as ODCA will host a golf tournament that day at 1 p.m.
Registration is $38 per person.
Later in the evening, ODCA will present its president’s reception vendor displays from 7 to 10 p.m. There will also be an Italian buffet dinner at 7 p.m.
On Saturday morning, following an early breakfast buffet, ODCA will offer its “President’s Welcome and Announcements” at 9 a.m.
At 2:30 p.m., there will be a general membership meeting, and, at 7:30 p.m., ODCA will host a banquet where it will give away awards and prize drawings, deliver announcements and present the elected officers for the coming term.
Throughout the weekend, several guest speakers will expound on a number of drycleaning-related topics.
Slated to speak is Nancy Judsen from PayChex. She will present “Solutions from Hire to Retire.”
She will cover a lot of ground in the seminar — everything from payroll and payroll taxes to group health insurance and 401k plans.
“Changing Business as Usual” will be the title of a seminar delivered by Lyn Schmidt of Energy Trust of Oregon, Inc.
Last year, the company worked with numerous commercial and industrial businesses to complete over 2,500 project designed to help reduce operating costs, improve efficiency and slow global warming.
At the convention, Schmidt will divulge some of those ways that businesses can be more profitable.
Also on the seminar schedule is a program by Dick De Zeeuw from the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality. He will discuss the latest from DEQ including recent audits conducted at a few Oregon plants.
Rounding out the list is Jan Margosian, the consumer information coordinator of financial fraud for the state ’s Department of Justice, Identity Theft, Consumer and Business Fraud.
Margosian will focus her session on identity theft, the fastest growing crime in the country and a particular annoyance in Oregon due to the state ’s many “meth” users who resort to stealing identities in order to support their drug habits.
Attendees will be guided through the steps they need to take in order to protect themselves from becoming a victim of identity theft. They will also learn what to do if they have already become a target.
The cost for those who wish to register for all events for the ODCA convention is $159 per member. The same package for non-members is $199.
