MAC plans pair of free Fall educational meetings in MD, DC
The MidAtlantic Association of Cleaners will be offering two educational meetings free of charge this fall for its
members in the Maryland and District of Columbia area. Prospective members are
invited to attend free, as well.
The first session will be held on Sunday, Nov. 18. at the Drycleaning and
Laundry Institute
’s headquarters located at 14700 Sweitzer Lane in Laurel, MD (just off I-95 at
Route 198).
The second program will be on Sunday, Dec. 2 at District Cleaners Equipment Co.,
which is located at 4424 Arkansas Ave., NW (between 13th and 16th Streets) in
Washington, DC.
They will begin at 1 p.m. and run about three hours.
A variety of educational topics will be covered at both meetings, including an
examination of solvent options for drycleaners.
Attendees will receive the latest DLI summary and comparison of all cleaning
solvents currently available on the market so they can make an informed
decision on whether to remain with their current solvent of choice, or switch
to an alternative best suited for their business operations.
Before any cleaner decides to invest money on new equipment, they should
consider downsides such as spot removal headaches, classification nightmares
and production bottlenecks.
Also during the meetings, Bob Klinger of Klinger & Associates will be on hand to discuss secrets of insurance coverage.
Klinger, who serves as MAC’s insurance guru, will provide an insider’s guide on how to structure your coverage so it will save money, yet keep your
business assets fully protected.
MAC will also provide attendees with a perc compliance update for the region.
Representatives of the Small Business Assistance office of the Maryland and
District of Columbia environmental departments will be present to answer any
questions pertaining to federal EPA and regional regulations for cleaners.
MAC requests attendees R.S.V.P. prior to each event. Those planning to be at the
Laurel meeting should register by Nov. 16. The registration deadline for the
Washington, DC meeting is Nov. 30.
To reserve a space, contact MAC Executive Director Richard Ehrenreich at (800)
235-8360 or (301) 570-3000.
The upcoming free meetings are part of MAC’s commitment to offer support for its members in Washington, DC, Maryland,
Virginia and West Virginia.
In June MAC co-sponsored several environmental meetings throughout Virginia
along with the state
’s Department of Environmental Quality.
The association focussed its efforts on West Virginia in August by helping
coordinate the 90th annual convention for the West Virginia Launderers and Dry
Cleaners Association.
For the event, MAC board member Martin Young organized an educational program
that included guest speakers: Mack Davis (DLI District 2 Director) and MAC
Chairman of the Board Charlie Smith, Bob Klinger and Richard Ehrenreich.
According to MAC President Michael McKay, the association’s commitment is far from over.
“We are presently arranging 2008 meetings that will be held in some of our most
unique drycleaner member plants in Staunton, Norfolk and Richmond, VA, as well
as other Virginia, West Virginia and Maryland sites under consideration,
” he said. “This new programming will allow attendees to learn, plus to tour our unusual,
successful production operations. This will be another valuable reason to
affiliate with MidAtlantic and DLI.
