Golomb Group offers route seminar
When drycleaning volume becomes stagnant, it might be time to tap into a new
vein. One tried and proven way of doing that is by building and growing pickup
and delivery routes.
This month, the Golomb Group will be offering a two-day program designed to help cleaners learn the secrets
to getting and keeping more route customers.
The program, known as “The Ultimate Route Seminar,” will be held on Nov. 10 and 11 at the Courtyard by Marriott Airport North at 4949 Regent Blvd. in Irving, Texas.
The seminar will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and from 8 a.m. to noon
on Sunday.
It will be headed by route consultant James Peuster. In addition to being a
monthly columnist for National Clothesline, he is the author of the book
“How to Build Million Dollar Routes!”
Often referred to as “The Route Pro,” Peuster has developed simple strategies to sell new customers as well as build
up volume with existing customers.
When it comes to selling home delivery door-to-door, having a plan and being
prepared are absolutely vital.
In addition to discovering the secrets of how to build profitable routes,
attendees will learn how to build and maintain high density routes; how to
achieve competitive advantage; how to get existing customers to spend more
money; how to improve customer loyalty and retention; how to get customers to
refer you to everyone they know; and the best ways to compensate route drivers.
Registration for the two-day seminar is $495 per person.
To register, contact the Golomb Group at (800) 833-0560, or send fax to (630)
971-3232.
Stain removal classes, trade show on SDA slate
Whether tackling your first stain, or your one thousandth, the key to success is
being armed with the right tools.
This November, the Southwest Drycleaners Association will provide those tools for beginners, as well as advanced veterans of the
industry.
Both stain removal courses will be taught by long-time industry expert Jane
Zellers.
From Nov. 12-14, the association will host a two-and-a-half day course for
cleaners with one year or less production experience. It will meet from 8:30
a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, and from 8:30 to 11:30 am on
Wednesday.
Attendees will learn proper stain removal techniques and be able to recognize
terms such as wetside, dryside, alkaline and acid.
The class will additionally shed light on how dyes, pigments, prints, and
finishes are all vital concerns to the cleaning process.
Tuition is $325 for SDA members and $395 for other DLI members. Non-members must
pay $460 each. The fee includes lunch and class materials.
The class counts as five Award of Excellence points.
Those who complete the course will be ready for the advanced session planned for
Nov. 14-16.
The class will meet from 1 to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on
Thursday, and 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Friday.
The two day course will focus on techniques utilized by more experienced
drycleaners, including hands-on training using bleaches and digester.
The class will also emphasize fiber content, weaves, garment construction and
burn testing.
The cost is $315 for SDA members and $380 for other DLI members. Non-members
must pay $445 each to attend.
The class is worth five Award of Excellence points, as well.
All classes from SDA take place at the International Textile Center located on
the campus of Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX.
There is a 10-student minimum and a 24-student maximum for each class, so early
registration is highly recommended.
Class time is divided between a lecture format, group discussions,
demonstrations and hands-on training.
Students are encouraged to bring in their own problem garments to work on during
class.
Nearby lodging is available at the Holiday Inn Park Plaza. The occupancy rate is
$62 plus tax per night for up to four people. Reservations should be made as
soon as possible.
To register for the classes or make reservations, contact the SDA office at
(210) 826-4684.
Information is also available on the association’s web site: www.sda-dryclean.com.
Also on the site are details on SDA’s upcoming annual convention in 2008.
The event will be hosted at the Arlington Convention Center in Arlington, TX,
from April 4-6.
Exhibit contract information is available in downloadable PDF format.
Space costs for the “Cleaners Showcase” for each 10’x10’ exhibit booth is $720 for DLI/SDA members. To qualify for the membership rate,
cleaners must be able to prove membership prior to Sept. 1, 2007.
For non-members, the rate climbs up to $840.
Those rates include standard booth equipment consisting of an 8' high background
drape, two 3' high side rails, and a 7" x 44" company sign.
