Gershenson to lead two route seminars for CCA
In November, the California Cleaners Association will offer two route seminars — one in Los Angeles and one in Sacramento — as part of its Cleaning Science Instruction program.
Those who attend either will learn the ins and outs of delivery routes from Harvey Gershenson of Sterling Consulting.
Many cleaners might recognize Gershenson from his monthly column in National Clothesline or his time spent on the board of directors for CCA and DLI (formerly IFI).
Additionally, he was recently a guest speaker at the International Drycleaners Congress ’ convention in San Francisco.
Gershenson authored a business plan that elevated his plant, Sterling Cleaners, to over $1,000,00 per year in route sales by adding five routes in five years.
The first seminar will take place on Saturday, Nov. 3 at Prestige Cleaners.
The plant is located at 4333 Winters Street in Sacramento.
The second seminar is slated for Saturday, Nov. 10 at Perfect Cleaners at 8550 West Third in Los Angeles.
Both will begin at 9 a.m. and run until approximately 3 p.m.
The cost is $75 per person per class for CCA members and $125 per person per class for non-members.
However, discounts are available for cleaners who send three or more employees to a single class. A $20 reduction will be applied to the third registrant.
Lunch will not be provided at either of the seminars.
Classes which do not meet the minimum registration numbers are subject to cancellation, so CCA recommends signing up as soon as possible.
A registration form in downloadable PDF format is available at CCA’s web site. Visit www.calcleaners.com and click on the “Events & Education” link. Then, click on CCA Seminar: Delivery Routes” toward the bottom of the page.

Bookkeeping,maintenance for WSDLA
Machinery maintenance and bookkeeping will be the topics of a pair of upcoming seminars offered by the Western States Drycleaners and Launderers Association this November.
The first will be held at the Laundry & Cleaners Supply located at 402 S. 50th St. in Phoenix; the second will be held at another  Laundry & Cleaners Supply location in Tucson at 3791 N. Highway Dr.
Both will begin at 7 p.m.
Bill Hay of R.R. Street & Co., Inc. will discuss preventive maintenance. He will suggest to attendees a maintenance schedule for a variety of equipment, including daily, weekly, monthly and yearly upkeep. He will also illustrate how to perform each maintenance step.
He will be joined by co-presenter Dave Miller of Sunbelt Business Advisers, who will discuss bookkeeping.
Miller will help attendees assemble and track their sales on a daily basis — all the way from the customer’s pocket to your tax statement.
Both Miller and Hay have served on the WSDLA board of directors for many years.
The cost for the program is $20 for each WSDLA/DLI (formerly IFI) member and $40 for each non-member.
