MAC hosts free educational sessions for DC-area cleaners
The MidAtlantic Association of Cleaners sponsored two free educational meetings for all cleaners in the region — one at the Drycleaning and Laundry Institute headquarters in Laurel, MD, and
another at District Cleaners Equipment Co. in Washington, DC.
Sally Smith of the Maryland Department of the Environment helped cleaners with
perc compliance issues and answered questions pertaining to both federal and
state regulations.
Bob Klinger of Klinger & Associates, who serves as MAC’s insurance guru, provided an insider’s guide on how to structure coverage to save money while keeping business assets
fully protected.
Attendees also received the latest DLI summary and comparison of all cleaning
solvents currently available on the market so they can make informed decisions
on whether to remain with their current solvent or switch to an alternative
that may be better suited for their operations.
The DLI “White Paper,” originally presented at Clean ’07 in Las Vegas, examines the advantages and disadvantages of the various
cleaning solvents now available.
While at the meeting at DLI headquarters, members got to tour the new facilities
and speak with DLI staff members.
The free meetings were part of MAC’s commitment to offer support for its members throughout the District of
Columbia, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia.
The association is planning 2008 meetings that will include Bergmann’s new plant in Sterling,VA, Puritan’s flagship plant in Richmond, VA, Albano’s main plant in Norfolk, VA, and Stanton Steam Laundry in Stanton, VA.
Also in the works are meetings at a new plant in Baltimore and a member location
on the Maryland Eastern Shore. A MAC meeting in Western Maryland will also
cover northern West Virginia.
MAC will hold its Annual Membership Meeting on Saturday, Jan. 19. All members
are invited to attend. For details, call Richard Ehrenreich, MAC’s execxutive director, (800 235-8360 or (301) 570-3000.
