NCA’s schedule includes six certification courses in ’08
The National Cleaners Association plans to keep cleaners busy in the classroom this year at its New York School of Dry Cleaning.
The school, which is located at 254 W. 29th St. in New York City, will present six outings of its DEC Certification Course throughout the year, three of which will be in Korean.
The Korean courses will take place starting on Feb. 17, May 11, and Aug. 24. There will also be courses in English starting Feb. 24, June 8, and Sept. 14.
The class will meet from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on consecutive Saturdays, for a total of 16 hours. The cost is $595 for members and $1,095 for non-members.
Starting in March, NCA will host the first of two 2008 sessions of its ten-week course on the “Principles and Practices of Drycleaning.”
Students will meet from 7 to 11 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday evenings between March 10 and May 14. A second course is slated to run from Sept. 8 to Nov. 24.
The 80-hour class will cover everything a person needs to know in order to become a master cleaner. The cost is $970.
Also starting in March will be the first of two NCA classes on “Radical Drycleaning/Stain Removal.”
The class will meet from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, March 3-7. It will run again later in the year, with the same hours, Aug. 4-8. Tuition for the five-day course is $750 for members and $995 for non-members.
April will be a busy month for the association as it offers a three-day, 24-hour class on “Basic Pressing and Finishing.”
It will meet from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday through Sunday, April 11-13. The cost is $455 for members and $595 for non-members.
Also starting in April, the New York School of Drycleaning will host a Korean version of its “Comprehensive Drycleaning” course.
The ten-week course will start on April 15 and run through June 19, meeting from 7 to 11 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursdays.
NCA will offer the same course later in the year between Sept. 16 and Nov. 20. The cost is $970 for members and $1,170 for non-members.
Before April is over, NCA will take a field trip to Speedy’s Cleaners in Rochester, NY, to offer a one-day course on “Wetcleaning.” The road class will take place on April 19 and run from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The cost to attend is $250 for members and $275 for non-members.
No NCA school schedule would be complete without its four-week, 24-hour course on the “Principles and Practices of Pressing.”
The association has allotted time from June 2 to 25 for the course, which will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays between 7:30 and 10:30 p.m.
Students must pay $380 each to take the class.
NCA will also continue to strive to offer educational opportunities for cleaners outside of its New York School of Dry Cleaning. Throughout the year, the association will host various webinars at 6 p.m. EST on Wednesdays. The cost is $69 for telephone and web-based participation.
Upcoming webinars include: “Door to Door Selling” on Jan. 29; “Marketing Program” on Feb. 20; “First Impressions Count” on March 5; “Cleaning Drapes Where They Hang” on March 19; and “Strategy #7” on April 16.
