SDA sets programs for Arlington trade show
While many drycleaners make the trip to regional exhibition shows to see the latest and greatest industry equipment on display, that is not the only reason to go.
Trade shows are the perfect time to brush up on your cleaning skills and broaden your industry knowledge through informative business sessions.
Such will be the case at the Southwest Drycleaners Association’s Cleaners Showcase 2008, set for April 4-6 at the Arlington Convention Center in Texas.
There will certainly be lots of exhibitors and products on the floor for cleaners to check out, but the free educational programming provides a pretty good backup reason for attending.
Headlining the convention will be the Drycleaning and Laundry Institute’s Executive Director Bill Fisher who will present “White Paper - An Overview of DLI’s Solvent Evaluations” on Friday, April 4 at 2:30 p.m.
Fisher has prepared an overview and evalution of current industry solvents in order to help industry members plan for the future. He will be divulging critical information designed to help attendees make the right solvent choice for their business.
On Saturday at 8 a.m., guest speaker Laura Barron will deliver a seminar on “Becoming the Drycleaner of Choice.”
Barron will provide attendees with proven techniques that create excellent word-of-mouth marketing for cleaners. She will also explain what it takes to get a customer to recommend your services to their friends, co-workers and family.
At 8 a.m. on Sunday morning, Myong Kang and Ann Cobb will be on hand to talk about “Preventing Costly Insurance Mistakes.”
Both Cobb and Kang have been handling insurance for thousands of cleaners since 1988 and 1992, respectively. They have dealt with every type of insurance problem imaginable, and they will provide attendees with tips on how to avoid costly insurance mistakes.
Rounding out the list of guest speakers is popular speaker Chris Allsbrooks. She is scheduled to deliver a lively performance on Sunday morning at 8:45 a.m.
Allsbrooks has years of garment analysis under her belt working for DLI (formerly IFI), and she will reveal the ten most common mistakes she sees drycleaners making.
Not only will she help attendees avoid causing such problems, but she will also give practical and useful tips for successful and safe stain removal.
SDA will be mailing out complete Cleaners Showcase 2008 registration packets to members shortly. They will also be made available on the association’s web site at www.sda-dryclean.com.
Rooms will be available at the host hotel, the Sheraton Arlington. For reservation information, contact the SDA office at (210) 826-4684.
Right now, SDA is currently seeking sponsors for its annual showcase to help defray its costs.
The association has three sponsorship opportunities: Showcase Sneak Preview Sponsors are those who donate $200 or more; President’s Reception Sponsors are those who contribute $100 or more; and Seminar Sponsors are those who donate $50 or more.
Every sponsor will receive a sponsor ribbon, special acknowledgement at the show, and recognition in SDA publications.
The deadline for sponsorships is March 14, 2008. Look for a sponsorship form in the current issue of SDA’s Southwest Press.
