MILD management series has three more sessions
Though the first session has already concluded, the Michigan Institute of Laundering and Drycleaning will still be offering three more rounds of its four-part management series.
Each will take place in the coming months at the MILD office, located at 3225 W.
St. Joseph in Lansing, MI.
The program is taught by instructor Jan Barlow.
The next session will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 15.
Attendees will learn about internal operations, the plant and equipment, system
procedures and technology.
Specific topics include: figuring numbers for pieces per hour; what type of
machinery is correlated to the production count; employee training; plant
layout; progressive workflow; more ways to utilize staff; and comparing costs
to output.
The third installment of the four-part series will run from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
on Saturday, April 5. It will focus on legal regulations and ethical practices
for effective human resources.
Topics on the agenda range from employee handbooks and job descriptions to wages
and incentives. Cleaners will also learn about employee retention, benefits,
employee safety, environmental issues, proper training and expectations for
employees, and different management structures.
Those planning on attending MILD’s fourth segment in its managing series will be asked to bring in some of their
own marketing materials.
The program, which will run from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, will
emphasize sales and marketing, the client and vendor relationship and
diversification.
Barlow will discuss the types of media, different marketing and advertising
plans, advertising philosophy, customer surveys, budgeting, ad presentation,
and analyzing effectiveness.
All sessions will include a continental breakfast and lunch. The cost to attend
is $200 per person per session.

MCA to host its annual convention in Red Wing
This March, the Minnesota Cleaners Association will head to the Treasure Island Hotel and Casino in Red Wing, MN, for its
annual convention.
The event will be held on March 14 and 15.
At 6 p.m. on Friday night, the association will hold a Past Presidents Cocktail
party where guests can socialize and enjoy cocktails and hors d’oeuvres.
On the following morning, MCA will enlist several guest speakers to offer
information and solutions pertaining to current drycleaning industry issues.
All members and non-members are invited to attend.
Registration for the event is $60 per person, or $20 for those who just sign up
for the Saturday, March 15 luncheon and afternoon discussion.

IDLA, Wilson offer bleaching, stain removal
Stain removal and bleaching tips will be presented in a seminar co-sponsored by
A.L. Wilson Co. and the Indiana Drycleaning and Laundry Association on Thursday, March 22.
Chris Patton will lead the seminar which will begin at 8:30 a.m. at Morellis
Cleaners, 6404 Rucker Rd., Indianapolis, IN. The seminar will last until noon.
Topics will include the fundamentals of safe spot removal, how to classify and
identify spots, understanding fibers and fabrics and proper techniques for spot
removal. The advanced portion of the seminar will cover proper use of bleaches,
digesting, and restoration.
Registration is $50 for the first attendee from an IDLA member plant and $40 for
each additional attendees from the same plant. For non-members, the fee is $75
for the first attendee from a plant and $65 for each additional attendee.

Haiges’ to feature live equipment at April open house
Haiges Machinery Inc. will host Clean Expo ’08, featuring live equipment demonstrations, CEU classes, catered food and
refreshments, factory representatives, equipment specials and door prizes on
April 26-27.
The new Firbimatic Saver SM, which does not require steam or water will be in
oparation and the new Feori by Firbimatic wetcleaning machine will also be
unveiled with special tutorial classes.
There will be a live operating Sankosha shirt unit and Sankosha’s newest automatic bagging unit. Unipress will also be operating its latest
shirt unit and finishing equipment.
Demonstrations of cleaning and spotting techniques will be presented by Ken Bull
of the Laidlaw Corporation and Nick Gagliano of R.R. Streets & Co. Inc. Factory trained technicians will be on hand to demonstrate machine
operation and maintenance procedures.
Admission is free. Hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
on Sunday at Haiges Machinery Inc, 11314 E. Main Street, Huntley, IL.
