NCA announces webinar schedule for coming year
During a busy production week, it’s hard for drycleaners to leave the plant, let alone find time to travel in
order to take an educational course.
Fortunately, there are webinars available that allow people the luxury of being “home schooled” at their own convenience.
In 2008, NCA has ten webinars lined up throughout the year to make sure even the
busiest cleaners can keep up on the latest industry information. Each one costs
$69 for telephone and Web-based participation.
First up is one planned for March 5 entitled “First Impressions Count: Making Over Your Call Office” by NCA Executive Director Nora Nealis. Later in the month, Jeff Berkowitz is
scheduled to speak on March 19 on the topic of “Cleaning Drapes Where They Hang.”
Later in the year, Jason Loeb, owner of Sudsies.com, will offer webinars on “Strategy #7” on April 16, and “Employee Orientation” on Sept. 17.
NCA Chief Garment Analyst Alan Spielvogel has also been slated for a pair of
webinars: “Stain Removal/Spring and Summer Fashions” on May 21, and “Doing a Good Shirt” on July 16.
Other webinars on the schedule include: “Solvent Technology Breakthroughs” by Mike Tatch on June 18; “Wetcleaning: Beyond 40%” by Ann Hargrove on Aug. 20; “Innovative Packaging” on Oct. 15; and “Finishing with Tensioning Equipment” by Kathy Childers on Nov. 19.
All webinars take place on Wednesdays at 6 p.m. EST.
Webinars are certainly convenient, but some courses that are more in-depth
require a classroom atmosphere. NCA will be offering plenty of those courses,
as well, at its New York School of Drycleaning.
Throughout 2008, the association will present four outings of its two-day DEC
certification course. It costs $595 for members and $1,095 for non-members.
Students will meet from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays. The two classes in English
are slated for June 8 and 22, and Sept 14 and 21. The Korean classes will
commence on May 11 and 18, and Aug. 24 and 31.
NCA will also present two sessions of its ten-week course on the “Principles and Practices of Drycleaning.”
It meets Mondays and Wednesdays from 7 to 11 p.m.. Start dates include March 10
and Sept. 8. The cost is $970.
Starting on June 2, NCA will present another signature course: “Principles and Practices of Pressing.” The four-week program will meet from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays.
Tuition is $380.
Cleaners looking for a comprehensive education on “Radical Drycleaning/Stain Removal” will have two opportunities in 2008.
The NCA course will meet Mondays through Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Start
dates are March 3 and Aug. 4. The cost is $750 for members and $995 for
non-members.
From April 11-13, NCA will teach cleaners “Basic Pressing and Finishing” at its NY School from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Tuition is $455 for members
and $595 for non-members.
Finally, a ten-week comprehensive course on drycleaning in Korean will run from
7 to 11 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting April 15 and Sept. 16. It costs
$970 for members and $1,170 for non-members.
