Did you know you have it made?
I keep reading about how difficult it is to lower prices or give crazy discounts when all you have to do is to adapt some of the new tensioning equipment, take a long look at several new drycleaning units, see how they can fit into your operation, and set-up your new profitable moneymaking business.

Why is this possible?
Whether or not it is time to redesign your plant or change your way of doing business, it is time for a new plan for future survival. This plan won’t cost money because this plan makes money!
Your highest payroll is your finishing department. A two-unit tensioning station, consisting of a pants topper and a legger press, and with a cover cloth that permits an inexperienced presser to finish two legs with one closing.
After the set-up, an inexperienced operator can simply shift the pants from one unit to the other. No more ceiling-gazing or waiting for the vacuum to conclude its cycle.
Here you can double your production, remembering that pants are 50% percent of the presser’s volume, and you are assured of perfect quality.
The same is true with jackets, coats, dresses, men’s or women’s wear, all with little or no touch-ups. Adjustments are made for each garment and the timing cycle begins. The equipment is all available and uses less steam, less space, and less production time to insure success.
Now you even have a cooler plant since finishing time will be dramatically reduced. Imagine — less cost, less waste, and better quality.
How about the drycleaning unit? We are all aware of the regulators who now are drafting up conditions that will ban perc units. Fortunately, we have researchers who are developing more water compatible units that favor wetcleaning, and fabrics that are designed to enhance the process.
Tensioning equipment is ideal for wetcleaning finishing. It can restore the garments without shrinkage or distortion.
No plant owner or business entrepreneur wants to spend money foolishly or make moves he would later regret, but there are changes our industry must adhere to.
Drycleaning units offer us lower operating costs, require less technical skill, and offer a wide variety of options with combinations of fabrics to process.
After considering these advantages, we also should look at our counter and recognize that our computer systems permit us to achieve better price control and classification of garments opening possibilities for more automatic marking-in and accurate assembly, and even controls for multiple route classification.
This brings us to final inspection and assures us with that last human touch that our automated modern plant is functioning inexpensively, allowing us to promote our operation with marketing and result-getting advertisements.
All theses improvements and modernizations permit us to invite expansion into more profitable services. I’m also amazed at what the modern drycleaner can now offer.
If your call office is large enough, you can redesign it to accommodate other types of businesses. What type? Simply take your local phone book and see what your location and your town might accommodate. I was surprised to find a small real estate office, a computer repair service, a costume jewelry sales display, an attractive sweater and blouse display, and selling, cleaning, removing and installing draperies.
It comes back to “investigate before you invest.” The door is wide open for new services that the neighborhood can now accommodate. Consider shoe repair, leather cleaning, monogramming, re-weaving, pillow cleaning, wedding gown cleaning and packaging, complete alterations, carpet cleaning and storage, including fur repairs.
The possibilities are endless. You’ll have the advantage of bringing new customers for drycleaning to your location along with a reduction in rent from a new tenant. If one venture doesn’t pan out, you can always try another.
We in a changing world and we have the good fortune to be able to adapt. Be thankful we are in a retail service industry, which offers many options that we can choose to adopt or ignore.
