DLI introductory, advanced cleaning courses enrolling
Cleaners with little or no experience may want to mark their calendars for an “Introduction to Drycleaning” course offered by the Drycleaning and Laundry Institute in July.
The course will take place from July 21-25 at DLI’s School of Drycleaning Technology, located at its headquarters in Laurel, MD.
The one-week class will emphasize the basic principles for plant owners and
employees, focussing on fibers and fabrics, workflow, assembly, invoicing,
drycleaning machinery, cleaning and drying cycles, and finishing procedures for
pants, coats and skirts.
Attendees will also learn basic stain removal procedures.
The cost is $695 for DLI members and $1,049 for non-members.
Those who complete the course may want to stay in town a little while longer as
DLI will host its Advanced Drycleaning Course from July 28 through Aug. 8.
The advanced course is also suitable for cleaners who have hands-on production
experience and knowledge of basic stain removal and finishing techniques.
Attendees can expect to learn about: specialty fabrics and fiber identification;
wetcleaning; troubleshooting the drycleaning system; regulations and care
labeling; business management; customer service; solvents, detergents,
moisture, filtration and distillation; and plant layout and workflow.
The advance course also covers finishing blouses, dresses, ties, pleats, pile
fabrics, silks and rayons, as well as advanced stain removal procedures.
Tuition is $1,149 for members and $1,649 for non-members.
Those who sign up for the introductory and advanced courses concurrently can
enjoy a discounted tuition of $1,495 for members and $2,395 for non-members for
both classes altogether.
