WFI inducts Schmitt; awards scholarships
During its annual convention in Green Bay, the Wisconsin Fabricare Institute handed out $2,000 scholarships to David Granados of Donaldson’s One Hour Cleaners in Neenah, and Nichole Bradley of Klinke Cleaners in Madison.
Both recipients were selected in a random drawing from a pool of all eligible applicants.
The scholarships, made possible by WFI’s Herb Fitzgerald Scholarship Fund, can be used by anyone planning on attending Drycleaning and Laundry Institute (DLI) training classes.
The Fitzgerald Scholarship Fund was established over 12 years ago when Jim Fitzgerald, Sr., Leo Rausch and Betty Fitzgerald retired from the Herb Fitzgerald Company in Butler, WI.
The trio were honored by their friends, who donated to a scholarship to be operated under the support of WFI.
In order to generate money for the scholarship fund, Jim Fitzgerald, Jr. has been organizing the Fitzgerald Scholarship Golf Classic in recent years. The success resulted in the offering of the two $2,000 scholarship’s to DLI’s finishing school this year.
More money is planned to be raised in 2008 when the Fitzgerald Scholarship Classic comes to the Silver Spring Country Club in Menomonee Falls, WI.
The event will be held on Wednesday, June 18.
Also during the annual convention, WFI inducted Dennis Schmitt of Lindeman’s Cleaning into its Hall of Fame.
Schmitt first began working at Lindeman’s in 1975 when he was 16. After graduating from the Northeast Technical School, he opted to stay and work at the cleaning company at the request of company owner — and long-time family friend — Ken Lindeman.
Twelve years later, he became a partner. In 1998, Lindeman retired after 46 years in the business and Dennis and his wife Patti, have owned and operated the plant together since.
Schmitt is also widely known for a series of Spot Right seminars he has taught with his brother-in-law, Tom Swink.
