Seventeen drycleaners from across the nation attended the National Cleaners Association’s one-week Radical Dry Cleaning Course in March.
NCA Technical Director and Chief Garment Analyst Alan Spielvogel, who is licensed by the New York State Department of Education, taught the class at the New York School of Drycleaning. The course included training on the “ins and outs” of drycleaning principles and practices.
After meeting for eight hours a day on five consecutive days, each students received a Certification of Successful Completion.
“It takes specialized training and detailed care to properly service the wide variety of garments and household items, which are all made of different fabrics,” Spielvogel said. “State and federal regulations change on a regular basis, making it more important than ever to stay up-to-date on the latest and most effective solvents and machinery options.”
The course, which is included in NCA’s Platinum Member package, includes hands-on and classroom training on a variety of subjects relating to fibers and fabrics, including: dyes, surface prints, optical brighteners, coatings and laminates; garment construction; stain removal and the safe use of a variety of bleaching agents; and drycleaning  practices, including machinery maintenance; solvents; filtration and distillation.
Another session of Radical Drycleaning and Stain Removal will be held Aug. 4-8 at the New York School of Drycleaning. For information, call (212) 967-2240.
NCA has more than 60 years of experience providing state certified training and garment analysis services and was the first cleaning association to be approved as a recognized New York Department of Environmental Commission training organization.
