NCA offering courses on basic principles
The National Cleaners Association’s New York School of Dry Cleaning has been training cleaners for over half a
century.
The traditionis continuing this year with a multitude of offerings, including
intensive courses on the “Principles and Practices of Drycleaning” and the “Principles and Practices of Pressing.”
The program on pressing will run four weeks between the dates of June 2 and June
25, meeting Mondays and Wednesdays from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m.
The hands-on class will show students the proper way to finish a garment, as
well as how to correct the pressing mistakes of others and how to use the right
piece of equipment for a given job.
Tuition is $380 per person.
The comprehensive course on drycleaning will meet from 7 to 11 p.m. Mondays and
Wednesdays from Sept. 8 through Nov. 24.
The ten-week program is designed to teach attendees everything they need to know
in order to become a master cleaner, including the chemistry of stain removal,
the mysteries of garment construction, fiber identification and machinery
operation.
There will be another offering of NCA’s comprehensive drycleaning course in Korean from Sept. 16 through Nov. 20.
Students will meet from 7 to 11 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Tuition is $970 for members and $1,170 for non-members.
NCA has other educational offerings at its New York School, including three
installments of its two-day, 16-hour DEC Certification course.
The program meets from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m .on consecutive Sundays. Course dates
include: June 8 and 22; Aug. 24 and 31 (in Korean); and Sept. 14 and 21. The
cost to attend is $595 for NCA members and $1,095 for non-members.
On June 29, NCA will host a one-day course on “Intensive Inspection and Innovative Packing” from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The cost is $250 for members and $275 for non-members.
Next on the schedule is a five-day class on “Radical Drycleaning/Stain Removal” that meets from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, Aug. 4-8. Tuition is
$750 for members and $995 for non-members.
On Sunday, Sept. 21, NCA will present an eight-hour course on “Intensive Bleaching” from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The cost is $250 for members and $275 for non-members.
Following that, the association will host a three-day course on “Basic Pressing and Finishing” from Oct. 3-5. Students will meet from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuition is $455 for
members and $595 for non-members.
Also on tap in the coming months will be several of NCA’s webinars, which enable cleaners to virtually attend seminars by phone or
personal computer.
The cost for telephone and Web-based participation is $69. The price includes an
audio tape of the seminar and PowerPoint files for Web-based participants.
