Zellers to teach General Fabricare at Texas school
All stains are not created equal, so even experienced cleaners can run into difficulties at the spotting board from time to time. A reinforcement of the basic fundamentals is never a bad idea.
With that in mind, the Southwest Drycleaners Association will be hosting three classes in June and November to help drycleaners of all experience levels be successful.
First up will be a “General Fabricare” course from June 23-27. The one-week class will cover basic customer service, fibers and fabrics, drycleaning technology, proper classification of garments for quality cleaning and reduced claims, tips for the “perfect shirt,” and basic stain removal.
Other topics will be on the itinerary, as well, including: wetcleaning procedures; dye stripping; finishing and pressing techniques; understanding workflow; and proper equipment and its role in production.
The class will meet from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Friday.
Instructing the class will be cleaning expert Jane Zellers, who will also teach SDA’s other two classes in 2008.
The course will be worth nine DLI Award of Excellence points.
Tuition is $505 for SDA members and $530 for other DLI members. Non-members must pay $595 each.
Later this year, SDA will host two courses on stain removal, one for beginners from Nov. 10-12, and one emphasizing more advanced techniques from Nov. 12-14.
Students of the basic course will gain knowledge of how to use the proper stain removal tools on a daily basis.
The class will meet from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on the first two days, and from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
The cost to attend is $335 for SDA members and $405 for other DLI members. Non-members must pay $470 each.
Those who complete the course will be qualified to take the advanced program, which will examine more in-depth spotting techniques.
Those students will learn about fiber, weaves and garment construction, as well as how to test fiber content by burn testing.
Zellers will also use hands-on training to illustrate to students how to use bleaches, digesters and KOH.
The course will meet from 1 to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, and 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Friday.
The cost is $325 for SDA members and $390 for other DLI members. Non-members pay $455 each.
The November stain removal classes are each worth five DLI Award of Excellence points.
All classes will be divided between lectures, class discussions, demonstrations and hands-on training.
SDA has set a 24-student maximum limit and a 10-student minimum limit for each class.
All of the educational offerings will be hosted at the International Textile Center, located on the campus of Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX.
