Fifth revision of drycleaning textbook
TAHLEQUAH, OK — “The Master Drycleaners Notebook” by Everett Childers is now in its fifth edition and revision and is also available in Spanish. The
latest version contains chapters on fibers and fabrics, drycleaning technology,
stain removal chemicals and procedures, wetcleaning, bleaching and finishing.
There are also two other books in his series, one on counter sales and one for
tips and tricks.
The first edition of the book began 20 years ago when Childers was the
department head of the drycleaning instruction and also taught small business
management at Oklahoma State University. He found himself spending up to three
hours a night gathering and sometimes creating the technical information for
the students for a one hour lecture.
After leaving Oklahoma State University he began teaching classes in various
locations involving hundreds of students over the next 15 years. He also began
consultation and training in individual drycleaning plants and worked as a
consultant to large corporations that needed information on the textile
cleaning industry and by attorneys who needed an education on the operating
practices of the industry, leading to work as an expert witness in
contamination lawsuits. Much of the information gained during his career is
imbedded in the latest version of the textbook.
Spray-on water repellent
PATERSON, NJ — Pariser Industries has introduced Par-RePel, a ready–to-use spray-on water repellent that is effective on a wide range of fabrics.
In addition to its water repellent properties, Par-RePel is also an effective
oil stain repellent.
The product is formulated to be used after finishing in a spray-on application,
thus avoiding messy dip tank repellent methodology. Due to its formulation, it
does not clog fabric weave, allowing for garment breathability.
The company said Par-Repel is nontoxic, non-flammable and environmentally
friendly. It is packaged in 4 x 1 gallon cases.
Drop-in solvent replacement for perc
Hilton Head, SC —Tech Kleen from Tech Chem is a drop-in replacement for perchloroethylene that is formulated for
drycleaning systems of fourth generation and beyond to remove grease, oil and
other residue and stains from fabrics.
Tech Kleen is gentle on fabrics and produces white whites and bright colors when
used in conjunction with standard, good drycleaning practice. It is non-chlorinated, non-flammable, and leaves no odor.
The company said that cleaning cycles and drying times are shorter than with
perc. Distillation is also faster which lets some users distill after every
cleaning cycle, guaranteeing pure clean solvent for every load.
Tech Chem manufactures and supplies replacement cleaning compounds that have
been phased out for regulatory purpose and provides technical support.
Automatic phone messaging
WINSTON-SALEM, NC — PhoneTree helps cleaners share important information with customers, such as letting
valued clients know when pick-ups are scheduled, offering reminders that
clothes are cleaned and ready or telling them about an in-house special for a
particular service.
Phone calls to these customers can be made automatically, using PhoneTree’s automated messaging system. The cleaner records a message in voice and selects
the people to call. A status report is automatically generated afterward that
shows if the message was delivered. Some systems allow for companion e-mails
and text messages to be sent with the calls and let for those being called to
transfer directly to a live person.
Spin filter cleaner
To use, pour eight ounces of Filter Magic into the button trap, circulate with
cleaning fluid through the spin filter for 10 minutes and drop the spin filter
contents to the still.
The process can be repeated if needed.
