MILD convention focuses on efficiency
Sometimes, the best way to make money is to stop wasting so much of it.
With that in mind, the Michigan Institute of Laundering and Drycleaning has enlisted guest speakers for its upcoming summer convention who will focus their discussions on improving your businesses’s internal efficiencies.
The event will begin on July 25th at the Mission Point Resort in Mackinac Island, MI.
MILD will host a board meeting from 1 to 4 p.m. on that Friday, before convention registration opens from 4 to 5 p.m. the same afternoon.
The association will also host a Putting Tournament and Wine Tasting Reception after from 6 to 9 p.m.
There will be a cash bar and plenty of appetizers.
On Saturday morning, the educational sessions will begin at 8:45 a.m. with Ken Downey from Unemployment Services, Inc. He will discuss how to “Control Unemployment Claims and Increase Profits.”
For over two decades, Downey has assisted employers with controlling and reducing unemployment claims and taxes.
A graduate of Eastern Michigan University, he has been with Unemployment Services since 1992.
At 9 a.m., Sharon Novasel and Phil Black will take to the podium for a seminar that asks: “Do your insurance policies give your competitors an edge?”
Novasel is the vice president of marketing and sales for the Regency Group, and Black is the manager of association programs for the State Auto Insurance Group.
The pair will examine how workers comp and property casualty insurance are significant cost factors for businesses. Fortunately, there are ways for owners to cut their premium claims cost significantly.
From 9:45 to 10:15 a.m., Jeffrey Bolin, MS., from the Dragun Corporation will speak on “The Environmental Nightmare: Controlling Risk and Avoiding Liability.”
Bolin is vice president of technical corporations for Dragun, as well as the manager of the Corrective Action and Remediation Group.
He has over 26 years of experience in environmental project management, and oversees and conducts environmental audits and assesses facility compliance under the Toxic Substance and Control Act, Resource Conservation Act, US EPA emergency planning and notification requirements and the Clean Air Act.
His program will provide an overview of site assessment and closure and various related factors such as risk assessment and cost effectiveness.
After Saturday’s sessions, cleaners will have plenty of time to enjoy Mackinac Island. MILD will host a golf outing starting at 11:30 a.m.
The cost of registration is $75 for members and $90 for non-members for nine holes of golf and a box lunch.
Later in the evening, the association will have a cocktail reception from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., followed by the Annual President’s Gala & Awards black-tie formal event.
Full registration events are available for the convention at rates of $155 per member and $195 per non-member if postmarked prior to July 11.
After that date, the cost goes up to $175 per member and $215 per non-member.
Those seeking to procure lodging for the event will have several room options.
MILD has secured discount rates at the Mission Point Resort: $139 per night at the Carriage & Garden Room; $169 per night at the Lake View & Forest Room; and $259 per night for a Specialty Suite.
All room rates are for single and double occupancy. Check in time is 3 p.m.; check out is at 11 a.m. For reservations, call (800) 833-7711 at least 30 days prior to arrival.
