CCA lists speakers for Fabricare ’08
With six educational programs on the schedule, the California Cleaners
Association hopes to give attendees of its Fabricare 2008 convention plenty of
useful information on a wide variety of drycleaning-related topics.
The seminars will kick off at 10 a.m. on Thursday morning when Diana Vollmer
examines “How to Increase Profitable Sales Now.”
Vollmer, who is president of Methods For Management, Inc., seeks to help
attendees optimize sales during an interactive session that will last about an
hour and 45 minutes.
Some of the keys Vollmer will focus on include: market analysis, determining
sales opportunities, expanding market share, and an action plan to capitalize
on sales opportunities.
More educational sessions will ensue on the following morning starting at 8:45
a.m.
Kelly Kelleher of Kelleher Equipment Supply, Inc., will speak for an hour on the
topic of lease negotiation.
Since leases can literally make or break a business, attendees will want to
learn everything they can about hidden costs, fine print conditions and
environmental concerns that can lead to long, haunting deals.
Afterward, Norm Korey of Wyatt-Bennett Equipment, Co. and Joven Lactaoen of
Joven’s Sales and Service will team up to deliver an hour session on “Dry Cleaners — What to Do Before Calling a Mechanic.”
Both men each have over 40 years of experience on drycleaning machine care and
maintenance and will be offering helpful tips that will help cleaners save
money and perform basic machine maintenance on their equipment.
On Sunday morning, Mike Belote, CCA’s lobbyist, will outline a “Legislative Update” at 8 a.m., explaining the latest information on regulatory issues and
legislation that stand to affect the drycleaning industry.
At 9 a.m., Peter Krasnoff, P.E., and Jan Greben, Esq., will present “Environmental Issues with Chemicals.”
Both speakers will share success stories on site remediations, often delving on
the details of how insurance policies work and some recent legal decisions in
drycleaner cases.
Finishing up the educational sessions will be a seminar on “Customer Service and Care Labels” presented by DLI’s Chris Allsbrooks, who has played a leading role in the association’s popular “Problem Garment” video series and has appeared on numerous national broadcasts, including ABC’s Good Morning America.
As usual, there will be a lot more to Fabricare than educational sessions. The
exhibit hall will feature all of the latest and greatest technology and
services the industry has to offer.
The hall will be open to the public from 1 to 5:30 p.m. on Friday, from 11 a.m.
to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
Also during the weekend will be a few social events so attendees have time to
network, including a cocktail party Friday evening and CCA’s President’s Reception on Saturday night.
The headquarters hotel for Fabricare 2008 is the Hyatt Regency Long Beach, which
will offer discounted room rates of $185 per night (single or double occupancy)
to those who call by July 29 and mention their affiliation with the event. The
number is (800) 233-1234.
For more information, visit the association’s web site at www.calcleaners.com or call the office at (916) 239-4070.

Childers discusses drycleaning in British Columbia
The British Columbia Fabricare Association had a good turnout May 25 to learn
the latest information for improving business in the textile cleaning industry.
Everett Childers, educator and consultant for the industry, devoted four hours
to talking with BCFA members about solvent choices, equipment, procedures and
customer relation concerns to enhance their profits and increase their
efficiency.
At an equipment display from Zero Waste, Alan Phillips answered questions about
environmental compliance and Tony Haddad of Fuji Star discussed shirt pressing
equipment. Sharon Carras of Neifer Equipment Co. in Coquitlam, BC, was on hand,
too.
British Columbia has an active association for textile cleaners in the western
part of Canada. The training session was held at Wagner’s European Fabricare, a spotless and efficient plant owned by Frank Wagner. His
mother, Elizabeth, also owns a drycleaning plant in the Greater Vancouver area
and was in attendance along with several other BCFA officers.
Childers will have a return engagement in Canada in September when he speaks at
the Saskatchewan Fabricare Association’s annual convention.
