How to investigate before you invest
I hope my readers have had a chance to visit the many exhibits and shows across the country and learn some new methods and trends in our industry. It’s a changing world!
I hate to go back beyond more years than I care to remember, but they tell me laces came after button shoes. And who was the genius who figured out how a zipper could work?

The Space Age brought us easy and serviceable Velcro, plus polyester along with permanent press and variations in finishing and washables.
In the marketplace are now thin, lightweight fabrics that are warm in winter, retaining body heat, and cool in summer, reflecting sunlight. All are washable, stain and moth resistant, and even flame-proof, plus wrinkle-free.
The sewing machine and alterations are slowly becoming a thing of the past with fabrics that are seamless and heat sealed.
When will we see these dramatic changes? They are beyond the drawing boards and ready for the marketplace and the progressive drycleaner, should be “surprise free” to service such new and exciting innovations when they arrive.
What better place to witness and see the equipment and products you’ll need to service the latest fashions and fabrics than at trade shows. Competent speakers can explain and introduce the miracles that will be before us. Consider that we spend a third of our lives on the job, and take home another third trying to figure out how to manage our businesses and work smarter instead of working harder!
This brings up the terrific advantages of attending a show. Every exhibitor and patron is at your beck and call. They have something to show and so much to show-off! Every sales technician and employee must be at his or her best and eager and willing to proclaims their praises, with full knowledge that around the corner is an equal competitor, who can dispel a claim, match a price, a feature or benefit, guarantee a service and delivery advantage.
As my father would say, “If your not sure of what you are buying, at least be certain who you’re buying from!”
Imagine, it’s all available all in one afternoon!
So what’s new?
How about tensioning equipment ? Are you ready for a labor reduction of 30 percent or more? Today’s machines can take totally inexperienced pressers and make them expert in one afternoon! How? All by a simple means of “motion study.” We know 50 percent of our volume is pants. If we take one inexperienced trainee with a new pants tensioner and a full legger press (one operator with two pieces of equipment) he or she simply sets the pants and, when completed (by timer) removes them to the legger and pivots.
No more ceiling gazing. One operator-trainee is now capable of 40 to 50 pants an hour, and all perfect, no part missed with no possibility of double creases. (Write for booklet, “Pressed for Perfection.”)
Where can you witness these miracles in action and much more? At the next convenient exhibit. See you at the next show!
